Carbon Balancing

If, like me, you watched Sir David Attenborough doing his bit for the environment you now probably feel exceptionally guilty. You can somewhat salve your conscience by carbon balancing your life. I just recently invested in energy saving projects to offset the carbon generated by a flight I made and have had trees planted in Devon and Scotland to offset my travel and housing energy use.

I feel very vituous now. Obviously not as good as not making CO2 in the first place but hopefully a step in the right direction.

Interesting site. I am cynical. It seems that it is trying to redress the balance (i.e. Neutralise the problem) and appease ones conscience rather than trying to tackle its source.

Agree there Mick it's more a site to jump on the bandwagon and make a profit from peoples guilt.

Prices are not that good either and you can buy the same things cheaper elsewhere. Also some of it's products have no relevance in helping to reduce carbon in any way like the memory stick that is one expensive process in producing that.

As for neutralising your emmissions by planting trees etc you can do that in your local area, there are lots of schemes that are run by charity wildlife groups and local councils that would make better use of your money. That way you can actually see "your" trees and apreciate them if you go out walking.

End of the day that site is only interested in making money and it's disgusting that it's using everyones fear and guilt of the enviroment to do it.

On another note stop the destruction of the rain forests, that's causing more damage and planing a few trees here and there as they will not offset the damage that is being done on a global scale.

I agree with the suggestion of Carbon Balancing and I have also changed all of the light bulbs in my house to energy saving.

On the same theme (just) but not entirely related I was passed this from a friend of mine. A Google search does indicate that the project is real and in terms of Carbon Balancing I don't think I could imagine how many trees would need to be planted to offset this project so anyone who wants to click on the petition link at the bottom of the article.
