I have installed Mobipocket ebook reader via the .cab file from their homepage. However that version seems to be the Mobipocket Pro version, which is only free for 14 days trial. Where can I find a .cab file for the standard Mobipocket reader?

I also have problem with where to put the ebooks on the storage card to make the show up in the list of available ebooks. The \ebooks folder is on the phone and I don't want to put the ebooks there. I was checking the registry and there is a key called "bookshelf name" where I can change the path to \Storage Card\Program Files\Mobipocket\ebooks, but it doesn't work - it won't find the ebooks there.

Any help appreciated.

After the 14 days if you don't register it, it will switch to the basic, free mode.

ok to store ebooks on your storage card is dead easy...easy... easy.... easeeeeyyyyy

down load the desktop version not just the cab version you need the whole shebang

then remove mobipocket from your phone now attach phone and install the msi you download this will install on the pc then find your phone and install on that too

ok here is how go back to the reg entry you made and rename it back to just ebooks if it hasn done so automatically.

now go get the folder called ebooks from your device and place it on the storage card mine is

/storage card/ebooks (had to up date this as after reboot it creates new ebook folder here)

now when you down load a book place it on desk top

on desk top version click my reading device select edit properties under windows mobile click synchronisation choose card a s location hit done/ok

now in the click on "my library" drag and drop downloads into the mobipocket desktop version

you should have a choice above that says send click send it will place it in the ebooks folder no matter where you have put that folder (device or card)

and hey presto you are good to go

now thanks for pointing this program out to me i ahve down loaded it and now have the ardious task of getting through paradise lost and dantes inferno both free by the way a great bloody find

Its even easier than that ;-)

MobiPocket will make an ebook folder in the phones memory. All you do is make a folder called ebooks in the root of your storage card, put your ebooks in there and MobiPocket will find them.

At least this worked for me :-)

In the desktop application, after you add your mobile device, you can "edit settings". There you can say where to copy new ebooks when moving them to the phone -- choose Card and Mobipocket does the work for you.

I have the same question! It says the reader is FREE, and you have to buy ebooks. Of course if you use just Project Gutenberg books then it looks like the whole deal is free!

go to Menu -> My PID. right beneath "show credits" you should find a link called "register". thats it. :)

Funny. I don't have a "My PID" option under Menu. So here's my version information from Menu -> Help -> About. Mobipocket Reader v5.2 - Build 539. Then PID, the copyright message and a few credits in alphabetical order of first name.

(BTW, Help does not open for me -- when I go to Menu -> Help -> Help, it says "Could not open:")

Do you have something different?

I guess I am ok with copying books from the PC, because I only intend to use free books, and those are only on Project Gutenberg, as far as I can tell. I don't see myself doing complicated searches from my phone anyway...

Which begs the question, have they made the product free in v5.2, after charging people for it in v4.8? That would be strange indeed!

I just found another way to make the help work. In my phone there is a top-level folder called ebooks. From there I moved the Mobipocket Help and Welcome to Mobipocket files both to \Storage Card\ebooks. Now help works.

Project Gutenberg has a few free dictionaries and you can get them from Mobipocket. Webster's unabridged English dictionary is there, so are a few English-German dictionaries (including specific ones for banking, insurance, etc.) I just couldn't pass up these two: The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce, and 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue. Search for dictionary on PG and you should be on your way.
