Guest mrmartin Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I know this isn't the right forum but it's the most frequented so I'll take my chances :) My problem is that I've made a cab file that creates shortcuts to my app in my start menu but I can't find any information on how to add an icon to it. I've really searched the place AND google without any luck. Does anyone have the answer? It's probably very very easy. Thanks, Martin
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 You can assign any ICO to a shortcut without having to edit the EXE. Kindly check this short guide I've prepared: http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=14 Look for 'II. Change a Shortcut

Guest mrmartin Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Thanks friend. It was much easier than I even thought :) Martin Another question: Do I need to provide icons in different resolutions or will one icon do for all? If I need different resolutions. Will the OS detect what resolution to use by itself or does it require extra coding? Thanks, Martin
Guest mrmartin Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I found out that my vs 2005 project does allready hold a rc file and it is being used. My problem now is that the ico file holds a couple of icons and I don't know which one of them I should edit. Anyone? / Martin
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Hi Martin. 1. I think this will somehow help you: http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=137 The topic is about creating an icon resource file with 2 icons under 1 ID. It was prepared before I acquired a QVGA phone so only holds up to 32x32 icons bu if you are going to use the IRF on QVGA devices, then provide another icon size bigger than 32x32. The thread below contains an attachment showing you what I mean by multiple icons in one ID. You have to provide an icon resource to use. The phone will take the largest size of your resource file. For best results, you need to provide QVGA devices with icons bigger than 32x32. Check this thread to know why: http://www.modaco.com/Large-Icons-in-C550-...32-t240367.html

I found this nifty little app called IconCool Studio which lets me drag and drop image files and then generates icon files from them in all kind of sizes and color depths. Problem solved and now my app has an icon :) Thanks, Martin
