GPRS woes on Orange M600

Hi there, i've had the Orange M600 for nearly a fortnight now and the amount of data it eats up is enormous.

The reason I think is the GPRS disconnecting each time the device powers off (after 3 minutes on battery power).

In fact it seems to force an Active Sync every time I come out of standby/turn it on and it is this sync that is using a lot of data.

I have sync set to "as items arrive" so why would it be trying to sync when I turn it on?

Shouldn't GPRS remain on at all times? Is there a setting i've missed that needs to be ticked or something?

I have my connection set to Orange Internet, instead of the Auto Pick which always tried to connect me to the Orange GPRS Wap, just to see if that helped but it's made no discernible difference.

When I leave the device turned on it seems to be fine but obviously this is going to be bad for the battery life!

I just want to stop GPRS disconnecting and syncing of its own accord.

Any help would be appreciated!
