Guest w411y Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 (edited) I just watched Holland vs Serbia Montenengro on my M1500 via WiFi and good ol' BBC who are showing games over the internet. Heres how I did it ... 1) On my desktop PC I went to bbc.co.uk and opened the game on my PC, right mouse click on the player and click properties. This will give you the URL of the streaming match 2. On my device I typed the URL of the streaming file into Internet Explorer and it opens up in WMP! :) If there is a game live on BBC then you can watch it on your device by going here.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsa/n5ctrl/sport/li...ol_now6a_bb.asx I believe every World Cup game is being commentated here on BBC Five Live which can be accessed here... http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/live/live.asx I am going to add other links to videos the BBC are showing here so if Im out and about and someone wants to see game highlights I can show them over my phone... and show off at the same time :) Heres some to kick start (I'll organise them into Groups later) England vs Paraguay Highlights - http://news.bbc.co.uk/media_acl/avdb/sport...e40_16x9_bb.asx Trinidad and Tobago vs Sweden Highlights - http://news.bbc.co.uk/media_acl/avdb/sport...e52_16x9_bb.asx Argentina vs Ivory Coast Highlights - http://news.bbc.co.uk/media_acl/avdb/sport...504_16x9_bb.asx Germany vs Costa Rica - http://news.bbc.co.uk/media_acl/avdb/sport...e02_16x9_bb.asx Poland vs Ecuador - http://news.bbc.co.uk/media_acl/avdb/sport...e13_16x9_bb.asx Edited June 11, 2006 by w411y
Guest pd.ryder Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Damned PC keeps insisting on opening RealPlayer, then it want's to update but can't connect, etc, etc. Is nothing straight forward anymore??? Stuff it, I'll turn on the telly :)
Guest peekie Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Does not work for us expats as the beeb detect the ip and see,s its not from the uk , strange really as in holland they have all the bbc channels on cable inc 3&4 :)
Guest w411y Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Do they!? Learn something everyday :) Why have they restricted it to UK only?
Guest sporkguy Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Do they!? Learn something everyday :) Why have they restricted it to UK only? I imagine to keep the bandwidth costs down from leeching Americans?
Guest pavankp Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Do they!? Learn something everyday :) Why have they restricted it to UK only? Some thing to do with telecast rights perhaps? They would be infringing on the rights of other TV networks if their stuff was accessible in say the US?
Guest Tech Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 well its both 1) to keep bandwidth low 2) copyrights but some people can actually get around the whole "UK only" scenario. restream it/rebroadcast it on the PC! But this wont work either as the home internet/cable connections are much slower than the servers internet connection. You could actually buy a VPS Server and use that to rebroadcast the stream, all would be well.
Guest pavankp Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 You could actually buy a VPS Server and use that to rebroadcast the stream, all would be well. From a legal perspective, you might be infringing on BBC's rights by rebroadcasting their content :). If some one goes ahead and does this though, I would love to watch the games :).
Guest Tech Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 (edited) yeh i know but imagine if it were possible. who knows, maybe someone is doing it right now... http://www.beelinetv.com/ http://mediahopper.com/portal.htm http://tv4all.com/ Edited June 12, 2006 by Tech
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Surely its to do with the British TV licence ? The Register has a story about it which I'm sure I've seen confirmed by the BBC website itself. So you Netherlanders should beware of the TV Detector vans !
Guest peekie Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Holland has always had the bbc , first through the normal old system but now they pinch the signal through the sky satellite , bbc 1&2 are free but you need the cable digital to get 3 and 4 , does make a joke out of the uk paying a fee, you lot should pay for the dutch to watch it free :)
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Just make sure you go through the 'Something To Declare' channel when you arrive in London for the MoDaCo meet, Peekie, as I believe it's my duty as a citizen to alert Customs to your freeloading off our national broadcaster :)
Guest fraser Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 It's definately down to world cup licensing, see this: http://www.boingboing.net/2006/06/03/hideo...mpany_send.html
