Guest Tech Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 (edited) Hi! Usually not the one to rant about stuff, except when orange is the issue lol. But in all seriousness, who agrees with me that some things on PPC/smartphones can be annoying? I dont know, when things dont work or there is a certain feature that should be there but its not...or something along those lines? I am actually not referring to the OS (I never do) but rather hardware. Well, it could be software too but not the OS (instead, perhaps the ROM) Why do Imate and HTC have to be different in developing their handsets than say, HP/Dell? The product/principal is the same - a Windows Mobile device. Hardware is different no doubt but why sometimes so much? Obviously if products are to sell even more successfully, then why do they disregard some features or items that are available in other devices? Too keep costs low? I dont think so but could be wrong. sorry to rant but i just feel frustrated at the moment! Please, share your thoughts and moments! :) baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh Edited June 12, 2006 by Tech
Guest pavankp Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 who agrees with me that some things on PPC/smartphones can be annoying? I do, I do. Don't get me wrong, I love my smartphone. But I totally hate some things about it. One is reliability. I just can't tell when my phone will stop responding to keystrokes and go into a coma; sure it doesn't happen often enough that I get myself a Nokia, but it happens a few times too often. Just this afternoon I was out with some buddies and we had to get directions to this place. I started up Google Maps, and input stuff, and then my phone hangs big time. The only thing that fixes it is taking the battery out! This is like PCs used to be back in the '90s -- reboot often, and even then they might die on you. Another major annoyance is the issue with constantly searching for a signal. I recently learnt from kam_ on Modaco that this issue is common to quad-band phones in the US, and has more to do with the way GSM works than with WM. Even so, I hate it when my phone is still searching for a signal five minutes after I got out of the subway!
Guest Tech Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 (edited) sucks :| I BET if you took a different model/manufacturer of the smartphone/PPC it would probably resolve those issues, but then lack in some other issues. My MDA Vario sometimes hangs, well, about 50% of the time. Nothing to do with the OS but either the ROM or hardware - somewhere in those lines. MDA Vario is made by HTC (who also made the SPV range) I also have an Imate SP5m - made by Imate - much more responsive, and use it on a daily basis, unlike I do with the MDA Vario. It NEVER hangs up on me ever. today I am going to phone HTC, whether they will have a representative or not, i dont know but as sure as hell I am going to give them an earfull. Guest pavankp Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 today I am going to phone HTC, whether they will have a representative or not, i dont know but as sure as hell I am going to give them an earfull. Good idea right there. I think we all need to give them an earful for time to time. That's the only way these devices will get more reliable! Not as quick a solution as I would have liked, but better than grin and bear it.
