EDIT awarner THE XDA Phone is not a C550, the C550 is Hurricane based and the XDA Phone is Tornado based. If you try this you WILL KILL YOUR PHONE.

Here's the link for the WM5 update rom for a 02 XDA, A.k.a C550, now rumours have it that the two phones have different cpu's, meaning that the drivers would be different ?

Heres a direct download link:

And a screenshot of the updater:

The thing is, is anybody brave enough to try this ? :)

EDIT : link to page please, not provide actual download link :)

Link to the Page, courtesy of Mardy Bum Stu ;)

Helpful Stu did actually edit the link for you. Awarner would have my guts for garters if I let that kind of thing through ! B) :P :D

I'd try it on my sister's C550, but she'd kill me if it messed up lol :)

i would love to try it out, but its just clicking the button and not having a brick as a phone afterwards.

I'm getting a new phone v.soon so maybe i'll try it once i get a new one... maybe i'll try it now. :)

Really wouldn't recommend it. This isn't an HTC Hurricane, it's actually based on the Tornado. It just has a Hurricane case in the same way that the T-Mobile UK SDA II is an HTC Hurricane in a Tornado case.

So, to reiterate, do not install this on your HTC Hurricane as you'll likely end up with a nice expensive paperweight.

Although having said that, the C550 was triband, the XDA phone is quad band, which does suggest Tornado bits...

See this update could swing either way, it could work or it cud blow the phone to pieces. maybe if the rom image was extracted we could possibly modify the drivers in it like the MPx220 and the HTC Typhoon ?

Just a thought... :)

But for the fact the forum rules wouldn't allow discussion or distribution of it...

do you reckon orange care will cover you for this? :)

has anybody noticed it says SPV in the top left corner? and a suspicious grey patch where an orange logo might have been blanked out in the top right? and its the wrong colour :)

That's not what THIS suggests:

P

Just remembered that I had this discussion with Awarner (MVP) a couple of months back and he suggested that the XDA Phone was an HTC Douton. I'm still certain peeps wouldn't be able to get its rom to work on the HTC Hurricane without major effort and I don't just mean unlocking the CID.

As you say Paul, the obvious differences are processor and an extra band. I'd guess those are pretty serious differences when it comes to compatibility of roms...

@Pondrew

Couldnt you just flash the gsm section from the tmobile sda II update?

and they are both TI OMAPs so the processors cant be THAT different can they?

Phil

EDIT: Attached images from Texas instruments site showing block diagrams of both processors

I've been following threads attempting just what's being suggested on SPV-Developers.com as well as other sites. The conclusion thus far? This rom is not compatible with the HTC Hurricane.

Still, I wish anyone who wants to try luck with it (but please remember that discussion of unofficial roms be they hacked, leaked, or cooked is not allowed on MoDaCo per the forum rules).

Hi,

I am not aware of any plans to update Windows Mobile 2003 SE devices to

Windows Mobile 5.

Tried the XDA Phone ROM as I was bored, no go as expected. Now to cid unlock :)

I'd say a CID unlock was absolutely necessary (as the Orange SPV C550 ID definately wouldn't meet the O2 XDA Phone updaters requirements). Good luck, what are you going to do if (as I suspect) it procedes to 81% then sticks? From others experience the bootloader will then be corrupted and the device will be un-recoverable without major work...

EDIT: I really should add that if you succeed Awarner there'll be a LOT of us C550 owners proclaiming your name!

Well I knew what would happen and I was right failed as expected on 71% :)

I'm now the proud owner of a C550 paperweight as it will not boot at all ;)

I knew the XDA phone was nothing like the C550 (apart from looks) so just to save everyone else from being stupid I did it for you :)

The XDA Phone is basically a Tornado with it's closest relation being the Faraday.

So don't forget kids.......................

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME

(I'm a qualified idiot and this was not my main phone)

I knew what was involved and what would happen. Once you play with this there is no way back to the land of the living.

I did this to hopefully stop others from trying it.

On the good side I can now do a guide on stipping the C550 completely without worrying about damaging it :)

you should have made a dummies guide to making an expensive paperweight :)

So would this rom work on a HTC Tornado/Faraday then? So anybody with a c600/qtek 83x0/imate sp5/m could flash it to their phone without ending up with a paper weight?

Technically yes but what would be the point? Don't forget this is a music phone etc and you could end up with the joystick not working correctly.

I can now get my C550 to show a white screen but that's it.

Not only an expensive nice looking paperweight.... but an expensive glow in the dark nice looking paperweight! :) Guess you could still use it as a torch then :)
