Guest G1LIW Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Sorry to hear your woes, mate. Regarding backing up your contacts - there's no way of shutting off the screen that I know of (and I've been thtough the manual too!), but ActiveSynch should add the phone contacts to Outlook oin your home computer - that's assuming you're synching the phone up - hope this helps :)
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 I've done exactly the same thing - gutted :) I would also be pleased if anyone knew the above :) Cheers, S.C
Guest Potatohead Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 I've done exactly the same thing - gutted ;) I would also be pleased if anyone knew the above :) Cheers, S.C Regards backing up your contacts.... set your active sync options to make your handset overwrite your PC and it should backup all your contacts to outlook, even if you cant use ir handset screen. Regards your screen, have you tried contacting HTC direct via: http://europe.htc.com/about/contact/form.php for possible solutions.?? I tried searching but couldnt fina any useful suppliers. Hope this helps :)
Guest cjlargear Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 (edited) I have a three weeks old SPV C550 with pretty much the same problem. I slipped two days ago and I had the phone on my pocket. The case clip pressed the screen against my body and it cracked. I don't have orange care and they redirected me to HTC Europe's offices. I've contacted HTC Europe last night and I guess I have to wait for their responce. The thing is that I read another thread about housing replacement and the end price HTC gave for the thing was 60 pounds, that's pretty much 2/3s of the price of a new pay as you go c550. On the other hand, if I had the orange care it would cost me 50 pounds plus 15 pounds for administration fees (summing to a total of 65 pounds). As screens tend to be more expensive than covers/housings I think that getting a new one is the best alternative. However, if I could get it done for half the price of buying a new one I would certainly do that. The other alternative is to give away my broken phone (fully functional apart from the crack on the screen cover - the screen works perfectly, no pixels dead and the phone wokrs like a charm) to be used as repair parts. Does anyone know where I can give it and how much could I get? :) Edited June 17, 2006 by cjlargear

I mean, its only useful to someone who knows what theyr doing with it i.e replacing a button ? Cheers Spacecowboy

How do I do this? I have looked at the activesync options in my phone (XDA IQ), but there are none - the options menu is greyed out. I have all my contacts synced from my previous SPV C500, and wish to upload them to the new one, but don't want to plug the phone in and watch all my contacts in outlook get wiped - this has happened to me once before :-(

Hope this helps  It seems that contacting HTC directly does not do any good either. I have a Cingular 2125 which is essentially a C600. Getting in touch with HTC got me the following reply: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Sean, Currently HTC does not sell replacement parts for devices. If you would like to have your device repaired by HTC, please contact the number below. They will provide you with a shipping address, turnaround time and any associated costs. HTC repair program for Cingular - 1-888-354-2375 Thanks, Jeremy Setliff HTC America ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For now it looks like I will either have to retire the phone or pay Cingular 4 times what it would cost me to get the thing fixed. Sean I must update the status of this. After sending a reply to to the message sent by Mr. Setliff requesting the OEM manufacturer of the LCD screens and part number, he got back to me after several days saying that HTC will fix my phone for free. The phone has been sent in and I am waiting to get it back. I honestly did not expect them to do this. Although I broke the screen in what I consider normal use, I was willing to purchase a new part and install it myself. The only other option was to go through Cingular and pay the equivalent of a new phone on eBay to get mine fixed, and if you think about it, why would I buy a second one when I already know I would have to buy a third if anything goes wrong? Apple is the only company I know of that actually took care of a similar problem when it replaced the iPods that were getting damaged LCDs through normal use. Given that Apple and the iPod are considered the benchmark in their market, I hope HTC keeps moving in this direction. Sean

The US Postal Service sent me a very nice confirmation of delivery for the 6th of October. Now it's been 11 days and still no phone. At least I have a paper trail that ends right at their front door in Houston, TX. Sean

Have you thought about trying to get a flat screen cover off another moby and cutting it to fit with a dremel? Edited October 19, 2006 by jetsetwilly
Guest gez200 Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 I've got the same problem on my SPV C550. I broke the LCD when fitting a new fascia! :( I'm gutted now, but a seller on eBay sells LCDs for £20 + p&p. I don't know if this is the best way to get round it? Do you know how much HTC charges. I've only had my phone for 4 months now. I would appreciate your help.
