Guest whos-rog Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Hi not sure if this is the best area to post in if not please move me to the appropriate area. I'm thinking of moving from O2 to T-Mobile as i like their new tariffs and i want to head back to a windows smartphone. :lola: I have beeen looking around but i have heard people slate t-mobile signal. I live in the london outskirts so i thought i should be ok. Also my other concern is what device should i go for? Should i go for the vario or the SDA II or the I-mate jam version they offer? I am quite clumsey and i am concerned that i might damage one of the full screen phones, and have a hefty bill for repair. So please help me by answering some questions.... What is t-mobile like in general? Is the Vario good quality? Is it a hassle to send a text? What do you think would be the best device for me? If i got a vario or sda mini (jam) would i find it too big and break it or something? i don't think i could really be hassled with the stylus to make a call. I currently have a nokia 3260 and that isn't that small :) Are the users of the above happy with them? Are replacements just around the corner? Thanks for your time in reading this
Guest hotphil Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 I just ditched Orange for a MDA Vario on T-Mobile - unlimited GPRS, Push email-enabled handset, sat nav, way more allowance than I'll ever use. All for less than I was paying Orange. It is a chunky handset, but then I like that. And WM5 seems to be streets ahead of SmartPhone 2003.

I recently switched to T-Mobile after ten+ years with Orange. More than happy with the T-Mobile service. Is the Vario good quality? Is it a hassle to send a text? The Vario is good quality. You have expressed one of my main concerns before I switched - texting. The honest truth is it is a breeze. For quick one liner texts I find the phonepad method more than adequate. For anything more lengthy, the keyboard is a dream to use. In fact after a very short learning period, I can say the Vario can be used without recourse to the stylus in day to day use. I'm posting this - cutting and pasting - and not using the stylus. The vario may be a little bulky to the uminitiated, but explore and show off it's full potential and then you soon realise how much more than just a phone it is. The Hermes, Vario II, I predict will be a killer device. Hang on for it if you can.
Guest Tech Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 tmobile are awesome - i had them a good few years ago when they were 121 - fantastic stuff. I also ditched orange for t-mob at the end of april and have an mda vario for me - the mda vario is reasonable but i experience frequent crashes - i dont even use it much. Battery for me is a bit poor but its going for a repair so hopefully everything will be good afterwards I would wait for the so called "MDA Vario II" which is due to be released at the end of june 2006 :)
Guest kam_ Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 T-Mobile have invested ALOT of money into the network over the years, so have no fear there. These romours that the reception is poor is usually started by people who are looking for a reason for their cheap prices. I've had my fair share of CS problems, and taken them to the regulator and won in the past, but i have to say in the past few months their CS staff have improved astronomically. All networks have their ups and downs, typically based on how much money they are putting in to train staff. Right now T-Mobile are on a big UP, and Orange are on a big DOWN. O2 are strugling to rescue business customers from Orange and vodafone, while O2 online are doing their best to meet the T-Mobile tariffs. In my opinion you should take advantage of the situation and move to T-Mobile. Loyalty offers have gone out the window with all networks because the market is saturated. Customers are just moving round and round the networks in circles these days, so they have no real need to offer you any great deal to stay and take a loss. Next year will be even worse when 'Three' may actually be usable, and you can bet they're going to offer some insanely low priced tariffs.
