Guest G1LIW Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Hopefully I've stuck this in the correct forum :) As the title and description says: I'm a cheapskate :) I've been looking on google and here for freeware applications to run on my Win2K PC at home, to convert wav files to mp3 format, in order to use them as ringtones, by uploading them via ActiveSync. However, I cannot find any freeware apps out there - maybe I'm using the wrong search terms, maybe there aren't any out there, but I'm wondering if any of you know of such freeware software? if you do, perhaps you'd be kind enough to post a url for me? Cheers in advance ;) Roger
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Look for dbPowerAmp - certainly earlier versions were free and it's quick & simple to use :)
Guest mygods Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Reduce MP3 file's size up to 30%-70% with the MP3 Compressor; http://www.audiotoolsdirect.com/cgi-bin/gl...view.cgi?ID=981
Guest xbadcrcx Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 Use Audacity and the LAME MP3 Encoder. Both are freeware. Audacity is well documented and open source: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. There is also a link to the LAME MP3 Encoder on that page. Just import the .wav into Audacity and do any editing you want, then File->Export as MP3. Have fun!
Guest whiteflippinjew Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 Haha, I live on dbpoweramp and audacity for all my audio converting needs. Once you learn how to use audacity correctly, you can make songs louder, only convert a certain section of a song, and more.
Guest Tech Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 easy cd da extractor works perfect, but 30 day trial!
Guest G1LIW Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 OK, thanks folks :) Downloading the LAME codecs and Audacity as I speak :)
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 We forgot to mention Sound Recorder, which will chop out your wav ringtone segment, increase or decrease the volume, and then save the result in whatever format you like - mono / stereo / kHz / bit-rate / kb/sec all variable. Ringtones need to be PCM format wav files but you can play around with the rest to get the right balance between volume and quality. You can also use MP3s though :)
