Guest munky^^ Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 I'd like a GPS on a limited budget, and have an Orange SPV C500. The hardware looks reasonably cheap now, but the main things I'm wondering are: - Are there any issues with the ~

Guest funkychicken9000 Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 (edited) Most useful thing I ever had for my C500. Well worth it if you do even small amounts of driving tbh. [edit] Oh and look for the BT77 (or BT-77?) GPS on ebay. It's the best one I've used so far. As for cradles, I got an adjustable one for 99p or something on ebay, really cheap and nasty but it does the job. Edited July 19, 2006 by funkychicken9000
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 (edited) Hi there, go for this one. Its an SiRF III (if you are going to get a GPS then go for StarIII) it has 10 hours+ battery life comes with car and mains charger but the best thing about this baby apart from being tiny is that it has a slide power switch and a Mini-USB connector :) Its not a standard pin out so you cant plug it into your PC but Holux do a special GPS-USB or GPS-Serial lead so you can use it as a GPS Mouse but whats really special is I have a +5v power supply in my car (bits from Maplin cost 72p) which is ignition controlled and I feed this into a Mini-USB plug. So what I hear you say, well with the battery removed and the slide switch set to on, when I turn the key hey presto the GPS comes on and when I turn the key off the GPS goes off :( I have the GPS in my glove box and its wired up to an external aerial so I get fantastic reception instantly and there is nothing on show in my car if anyone looks through the window ;) Also I would highly recommend the seller I have selected DiGiChoice as in my attempt to make my car gps I fried my original GPS and those guys where so helpful in getting my unit repaired so I can personally vouch for them. I use my through a C550 and I use Mapopolis instead of TomTom but the whole SmartPhone/Sat Nav is the dogs doo dahs :D Edited July 20, 2006 by Dr_StrangeTrick
