Dead...again!

I've a T-Mob Vario running the latest T-Mob ROM. It's my 3rd Vario since having a Vario at the start of Apr. I have issues concerning regular (3 times at LEAST) non recognition of the SD card and infrequent uninitiated reboots.

Recently it died on me and I couldn't get it restarted. With all of the trouble I'd been having I presumed it was dead and sent it in for repair. It was returned a few days later reflashed but with nothing found as being wrong.

Anyway, last night I charged it up to 100% and this morning made a very short call at the conclusion of which the battery meter was 94%. It then sat on my desk for about 6 hours, the LED flashing at the normal intervals.

I then tried to make a call, but nothing. The screen would not start. I plugged it in waiting for 20 mins but nothing. I removed the battery and waited 20 mins, plugged the charger back in and switched on- it went straight to the boot screen. I switched off and on again and this time it started, battery was shown at 14%. Does anyone know what's wrong? Battery? Charger? Phone?

I both love and HATE my Vario. It's the most unrealible windoze phone I've had yet.

if it's any consolation, I've had my vario since Feb/Mar and not had any of the problems you've described.

what apps you got running on it as some apps can dramatically affect battery life.

Only SPB pocket plus, nothing else. The battery usually lasts 3-4 days if I only use it as a phone, the battery monitor said it was at 94% 6 hrs before it died. Ideas?

Hi,

I'm not as upmarket as a Vario, but our phone used to die if you left IR turned on, have you switched something on similar and it doesn't auto turn off.

I'd like to back that up. This isn't a common problem with the Vario, at least i haven't seen anyone with the same issues as yet!

When it was returned after being re-flashed, did you install any software before you had these issues?

you could check to see if the battery is draining in a stable fashion (i.e. 100%, 99%, 98%) by leaving the battery meter on and turn off the auto screen thingy. By doing that you would be able to work out if there is something wrong with the battery...

have you got bluetooth and/or wifi on... another couple of battery killer features. my mda lasts about 6 hours with both of them on!

That would have been my first thought -- the BT/WiFi, and you would hope that that is all it is...

No nothing else running/open at all. Tried a re-run today and the phone's now at 86% battery in exactly the same circs.

It doesn't look like a software / connectivity issue.

Sometimes the mini-sd can cause problems like this. You state your device has had problems recognizing your card. Try without the card in for a day, you may need to reformat the minsd card but do it on the device. Also if your rom is non-aku2 you may benefit from an upgrade in rom.

What are you using to charge it with (thinking PC USB); if that is the case use the mains charger. If not ensure SPB Pocket Plus has the option to close apps enabled...

Keep us informed.

Thanks for the replies so far. I use a mix of chargers the mains and usb. I realise usb isn't up to the job, hence using the mains as well.

Pocket plus is all set up as it should be. Reformated the card when I first had problems, but it you search the forum the common theme for non recognition appears to be Kingston cards, guess what I have :) I would love the new ROM but as this is so unstable / unreliable I can't afford not to have the official rom on it. I'm wondering if somehow the card is affecting the power- via the slot maybe? I've no idea, but I can't see why it powers down (infrequently) and fails to recognise it (very, very frequently).

Did you format the card on the device or the pc? The format needs to be fat not fat32 and better to format on the device using storage tools or sktools (google them), Again try a day without the card in the device. Your reboot ptoblems are probably a combination of your rom and minisd card - with the later roms the problem seems to be resolved.

Thanks all, I'll reformat again now and post any changes.

I've upgraded to the new UK T-Mobile ROM. Nothing earth shatteringly different, but 6 hrs now and the memory card stays recognised. Yipee :)

Now 18 hrs or so since the ROM upgrade and no memory card issues. As an aside, battery life seems much better. 100% after charging at 8pm left on overnight (no alarms, calls or reminders) a 5 min call this morning and a 5 min play with wi-fi now down to 97% after 15 hrs!
