Guest Killian Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Hey guys, I've spent the past 2 hours with Google and Modaco but neither can find the answer I need. My SP5 broke down a few weeks ago so I went back to the SPV C500 while waiting to get it repaired. My SPV started throwing a fit earlier though, the directional joystick was just going crazy, pressing up would dial a '1' and pressing down would open up the start menu!!!! I thought a hard reset would get rid of it, which it did. Then I went to go and Sync all my contacts back on to it................. but it didn't work! It doesn't even attempt to open up Activesync, the PC doesn't even make that annoying "duh dum" sound. Its definately not the wire as I've tried it with another phone, its not the connection either. Anyone have any ideas on what it may be? Thanks in advance! Killian
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Try uninstalling Activesync then reinstalling it again. I had to do this on my Vario the other day after it stopped working.
Guest Killian Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 I'll try that when I get back from work then. It works on my other phone as I tried connecting that one to, it read it and sync'ed it fine. Will try it anyway though to see if it will then read both. Will post back what happens! Thanks
Guest Killian Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 Nope, that didn't work either.................. I'm absolutely stumped now. It worked before I hard reset it and theres definately nothing wrong with the USB cable. Anymore suggestions?
Guest Killian Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Come on guys, surely I'm not the first person to encounter this problem. Its horrible having a phone at Factory default, its capable of so much more yet I can't do it because the stupid phone won't register that its connected to the computer. Could there maybe be something I can do in the device manager? I'm open to any suggestions because I've tried everything I can think of!! :) Anyone???
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Have you got the latest version of Activesync installed? Also check your firewall settings as this can easily block your connection without you realising it.
Guest Killian Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Yeah I have the 4.1 build. It works on my other phone just not the C500 anymore. I've checked that both the Activesync protocols aren't blocked by the firewall and they're not. I think it could be an issue with the phone maybe, when I plug the USB in the phone lights up and the charge light comes on. The computer just doesn't realise its connected though. I was thinking maybe because I uninstalled Activesync and then installed it again that maybe I would need to delete the USB connection from the device manager but I don't know which one it is I need to delete. The strange thing is that when ever I connect something by USB the computer always makes that annoying 'Duh Dum' sound, but not in this case. Maybe its a hardware issue, I've had it for almost 2 years now, but I don't want to give up on it just yet. I love my C500 :) Any other suggestions or am I doomed?
Guest agdmwilson Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 I'm no phone guru but I thought that Activesync 4.1 was for WM5 and not for WM2003 as on the C500. Would trying an older version ie. 3.7.1 work??
Guest agdmwilson Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Saw this on the Microsoft website. Hope it helps "Faster file transfer speed and photo sync via Outlook are only available for Windows Mobile 5.0 powered devices. For customers using Windows Mobile 2003 or 2002 powered devices, please continue using ActiveSync 3.8"
Guest Killian Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Looks like I'm well and truly screwed.................... :) I tried installing 3.8, followed Paul(MVP)'s guide on what to do if you've connected your phone before installing activesync but no look whatsoever. The USB connection that should come up when the phone is connected isn't even on the device manager. It must be something to do with the USB port on my phone maybe, when I connect it, the charging light comes on but thats all............ Thanks for your help guys, looks like I'm just going to have to move on.......................

Guest djslash Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 I'm facing exactly the same problem and can't find anything on the net about this. Also, charging with usb cable but nothing happening with AS. Tried different versions of AS. NADA. Help
Guest Another Simpson Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 I'm facing exactly the same problem and can't find anything on the net about this. Also, charging with usb cable but nothing happening with AS. Tried different versions of AS. NADA. Help Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this? I'm having the same prob. Tried every version of ActiveSync. First time i install, ActiveSync (sometimes) connects but then, on subsequent attempts, the USB device is not recognised and just sits there charging itself.
