Guest Lynswin Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 Hi All I have just bought a new 1gb mini sd card for my spv c550. However, I have just put it in and it doesn't show up. I have done a search and was wondering if I have to format it before use or something? After searching the forums I downloaded SP Task Manager and went to the 'format sd card' function but it just comes up saying 'unable to access sd/mmc card'. Any help would be greatly appreciated Many thanks Lynda
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 You should not need to format the card before use but you could use a card reader to do so PC-side. My first thoughts would be to look at the contacts on both the card and the phone. Are they clean & dry ? Then look for the little switch on the side of the card. Is it in the locked position ? Re-booting the phone is next up. What make is the card ? There have been problems with some manufacturers and also with dual-layer cards. A good retailer will always exchange a faulty card so if nothing works you should send it back for replacement.
Guest Lynswin Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 Hi. Thanks for the reply. The make is a Kingston and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the contacts etc and there is no lock on it. I have also tried re-booting the phone etc. Unfortunately I don't have a card reader so can't try the card in anything else. If no-one has any other ideas I will have to send it back but I got it mail order so it is a complete pain in the bum having to wait etc. :) Thanks again Lynda
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 Definately get a decent card reader, www.mobymemory.com have a good cheap unit. Some cards do have compatability problems but it's not as common as it used to be. So the card itself may not be faulty.
