Try pressing straight in/down on the thumb-stick (not down like towards the bottom of the phone)

TrendsetterX is correct - by clicking your stick in an SMS, it inputs a carriage return :)

thanks guys, press the stick in works fine in notepad, dont know about (dotnet)VNC yet but i think i tried the stick in that before.
