Tornado info

Hi,

I am just visiting here from the Pocket PC world but was looking for some advice.

My wife is keen to get a phone with a decent organiser and MP3 player. I use a JAMin and I have been tasked to find her a phone. She has already decided on her contract (o2 online 50).

I have initially suggested an O2 Mini S but she thinks it is a bit too big. I have suggested the Tornado type phone and she seems to like it. I have emailed 02 re the IQ smartphone as they don't mention it on their site.

I am considering getting a Mini S and selling it on eBay and buying Tornado type phone. I am right in saying that there are a number of different phones available which a variations on the Tornado platform? I have seen some IQs on ebay along with C600s etc.

I would appreciate any info any of you have on these phones and what are considered the best buy. Also is it possible, say to remove the Orange firmware from their phone and replace it with a more generic one from say imate or Qtek?

for o2 xda iq you need to go to www.o2.co.uk/xda

or you could buy her a sim free version iether as qtek 8310 or Imate Sp5

there all the same phone unsure what will happen in the future as HTC are going to start releasing phones under their own brand name soon so it maybe worth waiting too

either way make sure you go with a WM5 phone and try get one with latet rom

Thanks, I did look at that but the contract I want is only available on o2 online, they don't appear to allow others to sell it.

I've already been down that avenue myself and even though they say the IQ is available it takes you to the Online business store which only has the XDA Mini S, XDA Exec, etc. I understand it's still coming.

Would be interested in porting across myself as don't use that particular account for data (as I've a seperate T-Mobile Web N Walk tariff as well).

Going way off topic here, Mrs Spangels has now shown an interest in a T Mob MDA Compact 2 because of "oooh its pink, want that one". How do you find yours?

As much as Pondrew loves his Pink CPII :) I reckon she'd probably get along with the SP5 a lot better.

My GF tends to understand my SP5 a lot more than she does my M500, and given the choice she'd choose ease of use over pinkness lol :)
