Guest Twilight.Cruiser Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Hi there, who knows if there is any alarm clock tool with the possibility to 'wake up' a powered down Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone? :) Any 'normal', conventional mobile phone will be automatically powered on if there is a pre-programmed target date for the alarm, even when th e device is turned off. Unfornately, my WM5SP's 'standard' alarm clock won't do so: if the alarm's predetermined point in time appears and the smartphone is in power down mode (powered off), the smartphone still 'sleeps' anyway and nothing happens! So, for example, if I want to be waked up in the morning by my smartphone, I just have to leave the phone switched on. I just could activate the flight mode (wich would save the battery's energy and reduce the electro-magnetic emittance), but it would be more usefull and more effecient to turn the whole smartphone off (instead of only the phone module, which will be switched off when the phone is turned into the flight mode). But whon totally powered off, the alarm clock isn't active anymore... :) Perhaps it should be possible to pre-program the SP's RTC with a 'wake-up event' (if there's one!), I guess; this is also the way for a desktop PC's time-controlled wake-up from suspend mode (as far as I know).
Guest Twilight.Cruiser Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Who knows if there is any alarm clock tool with the possibility to 'wake up' a powered down Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone? :)No suggestions so far? So nobody knows, I guess!? Ok, supposing that there's no way to automatically 'wake up' a shut down device, I have to put the smartphone into flight mode over night (which will surely economise much of the battery power). So is there a (free) alarm clock tool allowing most (or maybe all? ;) ) of the following requirements: (*) Direct access to the clock's settings by the today's home screen and / or a short activation of the phone's power button (that will usually call the quick commands and profile selection), that means an "alarm clock" point is added to the quick commands? (*) Alarm should have the possibility to be sheduled to be active only on determined days, only from monday to friday, for example. (*) Maybe more than only one single alarm clock event. (*) Alarm should have a 'snooze mode', i. e. it will repeat after a determinable period (every 10 minutes for example) until it's definitively switched off. (*) Would be fine if the next active/upcoming event would be displayd on the today's screen. (*) A great feature would also be the possibility to manage not only alarm clocks, but also other events, like putting the smartphone into flight mode at a predefined time...! :) (*) Last not least, the tool should be compatible with MS WM5SP (...of course...)! :D Thanks in advance for any useful hints and suggestions!
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Unlike a PocketPC when a Smartphone is powered down there is no OS running. So it's impossible to wake one up automatically. There are applications and plugins that will do bits and pieces of what you ask but I know of no application that will do all of it.
Guest conan_troutman Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 you want john codys alerts pro but it aint free or autoflight and that aint free or the new release of city time alarms when it arrives again not free you want it for free make it then after all your hard work give it to every one for free I appluad those that can and do but understand those that charge why the hell mania aint selling his programs is beyond me but i'm glad he aiunt
Guest scottb Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 (edited) The beta version 2 of CityTime Alarms can be found under the Smartphone News forum. It will do everything you mention except provide access from the homescreen (and, of course, wake up from power off). It's not free, but it's well worth the price. Edited July 3, 2006 by scottb
Guest Twilight.Cruiser Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 (edited) First of all: Thank you all for your replies! ;) Unlike a PocketPC when a Smartphone is powered down there is no OS running. So it's impossible to wake one up automatically.Hi awarner, ok, that's what I worried about...! :) There are applications and plugins that will do bits and pieces of what you ask but I know of no application that will do all of it.Maybe you can give me some application names for testing them out? :P Oh, and last not least: Thank you for the SmartPhone History! Now I know more about my SmartPhone like ever did before... (that's real)! you want john codys alerts pro but it aint free or autoflight and that aint free or the new release of city time alarms when it arrives again not freeHi conan_troutman, thanks for the hints, I'll check them out next time! you want it for free make it then after all your hard work give it to every one for free I appluad those that can and do but understand those that charge why the hell mania aint selling his programs is beyond me but i'm glad he aiuntDon't be cynical about that! I've asked for free software because there is free software with the same or even more or better functionality and/or besser ease of use often! Actual I really sweared that my first software (if I ever have enough time for that - and I hope so!) will be free (and maybe later applications to, if there will ever be some). In return of that, there will be no need to implement features, don't have to meet release dates, don't have to care or worry of singular compliance problems... :) And I like freeware, and I like to use it! Making own tools and sw free would be some kind of 'payback' to the freeware community, I think. :D But I don't have any problem to pay for an application if I really like it! I'll check this out, too! :P Edited July 3, 2006 by Twilight.Cruiser
Guest jm012a9749 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 smartphone bootloaders dont support standby mode unlike ppcs so like awarner said there will be no OS running. maybe you could just use the power management settings to use a little power as possible and set your alarm(s) like that? just a thought.... phil
