Guest jonajuna Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 so anyone installed it yet? does it do anything more than just add push email? cant be bothered with reinstalling all my kit and risking it being even slooowwer if it doesnt add or improve things
Guest impy78 Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 the link you have given takes me to the old rom. dated 08/12/05
Guest kaf Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 I've given up on the MDAcII and gone back to a wm5(alledgedly) XDA2 mainly because I loved the small size of the MDAcII but the distinct lack of power and the wi-fi issue put me off .... eventually. Onto the update ... Big sound of deflating baloon in disapointment ... about as useful as the German one was !!! My thoughts and observations...... When you install the upgrade theres a BIG pause at 85% ... don't panic. There is none of that cut, copy and pasting tutorial at cold boot up that has annoyed me for the past 5 years. You get Comm Manager (little use) and I guess the push mail thing - but I have no intention of using microsofts - I use vgsmail. Free memory is around 40.5MB with customisation installed - think this is better than before? Sunnysoft backup manager didn't seem that succesful so any-one upgrading will probably have to install apps from scratch Apart from that - very little difference - and the Wireless issue still appears to remain. So back in it's pretty box it goes ....
Guest jonajuna Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 the link you have given takes me to the old rom. dated 08/12/05 i guess you need to clear your cache :)
Guest impy78 Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 I cleared the cache, cleared the history, cleared my cookies - and it's still showing the old rom.....
Guest dave106 Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 settings>device information gives a rom date of 3/9/06. guess t-mobile have been sat on this one for a few months now!
Guest loxs Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Ok So I have it installed been running it for a day so far and it seems good. To be honest it feels faster than before and also alot more stable may be due to not having to have vgsmail running as I just use the direct push to grab my email now which I should add is superb I prefer it much more than vgsmail. MSN is still in there and there really isn't much more difference apart from what everyone knows that being the battery and time being in different locations but as I say it seems better more stable to me. Unsure about battery consumption but im a bad guy to ask as I used to have vgsmail running picking up mail all day. Would like to see an unbranded rom but for now im very happy and couldnt ask for much more.

I think I agree with this . and I've still got vgsmail running. There is still the occasional huge hang for a minute or two (usually an activesync or messaging event) but most of the time it does seem to be more usable speed wise. It's just a real shame the wi-fi hasn't been solved I've come to the conclusion that this phone is probably best described as a smartphone that happens to run the PPC os rather that a fully fledged PPC. If I buy another tiny PPC I'll try and get one that doesn't have an OMAP

T- Mobile have told me this isn't available yet, even though the site with the rom upgrade on says it does?!
Guest loxs Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 IMPY I trust you understand "microsoft directpush" will only work in conjunction with exchange 2003 SP2? ok then. What you need to do is open up active sync (on your device)type in the credentials etc server name, user and pass for your exchange mailbox make sure everything is correct choose what you want to sync click ok to go back to the main active sync page click sync sit back and marvel. There are options to grab items as they arrive. You then need to go into comms manager and ensure Microsoft Directpush is enabled. Sorry if this guide is crap but im a techy not a documentation writer :)

I have been using mail2web, and that seems to be working swimmingly.
