Guest spvlover Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 (edited) Hello everyone.. I was looking throu pocketgear and found this : http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=19899 There is no Demo to download so i thought.... take the risk. i bought the software and 1 week after i got6 my reg code too unlock. I have a 2GB SDcard, put it in my pocketpc ( Orange SPV m5000 , HTC Universal ) i used SewlklDisk and now have 5.8GB of free space. With Card Export ( software to transforme your pocketpc into a usb drive ) i conected to my pc and..... 5.8 GB USB device detected. hvent filld it up yet, but RescoExplorer and internal storage viewer indicate also 5.8GB of usable Space. Here is another one...: http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=22364 There are some Slowdowns, but only when saving to the SDcard, and only minimal. If anyone else has this sofware ( or not ) tell me about your expiriences and thoughts.. Edited June 21, 2006 by spvlover
Guest w411y Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 (edited) I remember reading about this about a year ago. Could't find one review or no trustworthy source of it working. I may purchase it although I've told myself to stop tucking into my Paypal account :) Curious as to how it works mind. Sounds like your promoting the software though :) Edited June 21, 2006 by w411y
Guest spvlover Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Hmmm no im realy not trying to promote it... i bought it and want to start a discussion about it. my expirience up to now is positive........but id like to know if any one else uses this. ect It must be some sort of super compression, cause if you but your swelldisc optimized card ito a card reader... it shows the physical 2 GB. Since i use CardExport, my Pocketpc is my card reader...... ill try some mor and keep posting :-)))
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Bit too expensive for me so even think about trying. Also only three downloads does not give me confidence as a well used and trusted application. I know it's been recently updates but would prefer to see real reviews first.
Guest chucky.egg Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 The price has always put me off too, but it's interesting to hear your experiences. Does it work with internal storage? That might be very useful.
Guest Confucious Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 I paid $58 for a 4Gb card so it does seem rather expensive. Presumeably the 5.8Mb free is an "estimate" of what you might be able to get if things were compressed to the max. Try copying some large files to the card and see how much you actually can fit on there. Text files will compree a lot - but are usually small to start with but pics - which are usually large, are already compressed so you probably won't get much more comprssion. Can you do some tests (eg load a 500Mb file and see how much it reports free, load multiple copies of the same file and see how much the free space goes down by, try copying 2Gb from your PC and see how much is reported free, try copying 5.8Gb - and see how far you get) Let us know how it performs! Thanks
Guest sporkguy Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 I've read on *other* forums that it only works on certain devices. I tried a version on my Vario and it refused to install.
Guest Confucious Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Just done a search and found http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/vie...&highlight= It looks like it does nothing more than actually report more free space!!! It will be interesting to hear if you have a more possitive experience.
Guest sporkguy Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 purchased "Speedzip", which seems to be an earlier version of "Swelldisk", for my Ipaq 4705. The program did *not* work, even after five days of doing everything including a hard restart and beginning from the beginning. Once my CF card was full, it was *full* no matter what extra space the card showed. I couldn't put anything in that 'extra' space. Plus, it locked up my Ipaq several times, and when I reported that the 'convert' part of the program wasn't working, they told me I didn't need that part of the program. I never even showed any space savings in the Ipaq file store. Tech support was nonexistant, and "It should work" it just about the only answer I received. After asking for a refund on 19 Feb 05, I *still* have not gotten a refund, and they're ignorning me. So I know their refund policy is a lie. If you buy the program from their web site, through Paypal, then Paypal won't get involved. Once you get a 'product' they say that it's then between you and the seller. AVOID.
Guest mini_man Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 They used to do this with pc hardrives when they were too expensive to by new ones. But I dont know if it mentions this but : In theory it will work, as its live compression and decompression when you put things on and off. BUT! I dont know if it mentions this but it will only work for programs that are on the memory card. Music and video are already compressed and can hardly be compressed at all. So if you happen to ONLY have programs on your storage card then this is ideal but thats how it works. Tell you what it would be good for though. Wifi memory cards for smartphone. I heard some have like 16mb of memory on them for your leisure but thats very pathetic! but if you had only programs on that one which is likely what id do then this would be much more useful! Sam
