Guest pupton Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 (edited) Does anyone have any info on whether the Orange SPV c600 will run Wayfinder. I want an occasional satnav setup on my c600 and dont want to pay out for TomTom so Wayfinder being alot cheaper/basic will do. got it installed but it complains about a certificate problem and wont display the maps. My c600 is not app unlocked.... Any thoughts would be appreciated. Edited June 23, 2006 by pupton
Guest jcostantino Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 (edited) I'm loading it now on my 2125. I would assume the C600 should run it since they list the 2125 (WM5, QVGA) and all the way down to the SDA (WM2003/QQVGA). It seems about as expensive as any other GPS nav system though. You might want to look into Mapopolis as well, I've had better luck with that over any other GPS software I've tried. Granted, I'm in the US and we're lucky to get 75% coverage with our year or more old maps from the same companies who make 99% covered maps that are up to date in Europe. Edit: I just installed it and it's a good thing I have unlimited data because it downloads (and caches) street data from GPRS/EDGE. This is technically good since the maps are always up to date but it's also bad since I believe the software is subscription based.. when your year (or whatever it is) is up, you're locked out. Then there's always the per kb charge for continuously downloading maps. Edit 2: Browsing the area maps, it seems as though there are entire subdivisions that are on their map data that TomTom and Mapopolis don't have yet so.. it seems as though the most important part of a GPS software, the maps, is met with this one.. especially in NA where like I said, the maps suck. It's a great idea except that it's still pretty spendy (US is I think $150, Mapopolis is $99 and you keep your map data forever). I haven't navigated anywhere but I will be leaving work shortly and am excited to give this a shot. Does anyone have any info on whether the Orange SPV c600 will run Wayfinder. Guest jcostantino Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 Ok, I installed and used this for a few minutes tonight... I'm not impressed. It is VERY slow downloading the next section of maps over EDGE, if you only have GPRS in your area you'll be outdriving the maps. It's a great idea but it's super slow. I thought Mapopolis's route planning was awkward to use - this is a huge pain. I just looked and the price is for lifetime subscription to the service which is pretty cool as long as they stay in business :) Important things seem to be hidden... setting the map to rotate around the icon is "9" on the keypad - there is no menu option for this that I could find. There are almost no POIs - but I'm in the US so it could just be the maps for us.... or there is a hidden detail setting I haven't found. It's not bad for the money but I might suggest looking into Mapopolis if you want cheap GPS. You can get a demo of their application as well.
