Guest MetalMessiah78 Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 I hope that one of you phone guru's can help me. I configured my phone as was listed here to allow internet access via T-Zones on the T-Mobile SDA. My phone worked flawlessly until yesterday morning. Every time I try to access a link outside of T-Zones, such as Google, I get a message saying "This page contains errors and cannot be displayed". I contacted T-Mobile, but as always, they were useless. He told me that T-Zones is not supported by the SDA and that he could take it off and put me on the total internet plan for $30. <_< He did however fill me in on what might be useful information. He said there was a loop hole before that allowed customers to access the internet via T-Zones, but that it had been closed. My question is, has anyone found another loop hole. I know that I'm probably not the only one that is experiencing this problem. Any suggestions or help would be welcome. These are the setting that I'm currently using now: GPRS Connections Description: T-Zones GPRS Connects to: The Interent Access point: wap.voicestream.com User name: Password: Primary DNS: 216.155.165.50 Secondary DNS: IP address: Proxy Connections Description: T-Zones Proxy Connects from: The Internet Connects to: WAP Network Proxy (name:port): 216.155.165.50:8080 Type: HTTP User name: Password: Thanks in advance.
Guest pankul Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 (edited) I agree it has stopped working as of this morning for me as well. I restarted the phone as to no avail. I simply do not justify $30 / month for internet browsing access for the phone. Its daylight robbery. Some people (other friends) using same config are still able to use it. Can some other people testify their location and status on the same. Manhattan New York, does not work Edited June 27, 2006 by pankul

Let me get this right... You contacted T-Mobile technical support to ask them why your pirated internet access was no longer working? I don't think that's the approach I would have taken. Also, it does not suprise me that they gave you that kind of answer. They are probably instructed to tell people that. It's obvious that T-Mobile knows about the hole, and that people out there are exploiting it. But figure the number of customers they have. Then figure the percentage of them that even has a phone that can access the internet. Then figure the number of those that even have a desire to access the internet from their phones. Then figure the percentage of those that even have the technical ability, or desire, to actually manually put in the settings and make it work. I doubt it's worth the expense they would incur to close the hole. Maybe they have, but it's more likely that there's another temporary problem at work here. However, if they really did close the hole, then I think looking for another one may be a waste of time. If you need internet access on your phone, the time is sure to come when you will have no choice but to pay for it. On a side note... Mine is still working, and I have verified with another friend this his is still working as well. If the masses start posting that their access has been cut off as well, then I will believe it. I would be quite suprised, then I would accept it, and then just use wifi until my contract allows me to switch to Cingular. Edited June 27, 2006 by dleasman
Guest MetalMessiah78 Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 I didn't tell him that my pirated internet access is not working. I told him that I couldn't access some of the links in T-Zones, which is true. Some I can access, others I can't. He said that T-Zones is not supported on the SDA, and the only thing he can do is sign me up for the $30 plan. I do agree that it is robbery to have to pay so much for internet access on a phone. I can justify paying that on a computer, which I do use a lot, but for my phone, I just use it to check gas prices, email, do quick searches for phone numbers or addresses every once in a while, but I'm not on it all day browsing the web. If I could get it for $20 minus the Hotspot waste of money, I would probably sign up for that. I didn't have the SDA when T-Mobile was running the promotion. $30 for how little I use it for is ridiculous. That's why I am trying to find another loop hole. It was found once, and I'm sure it could be found again. I am in El Paso, TX. So... Let me get this right... Guest pankul Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 OK I can confirm it is working for me again. It might have been some temporary networ issue here. Again no changes were made from my side on the settings. Also I am able to stream audio on my phone ... eg i listen to xmradio on my phone. Previously it only worked with WiFI, now it even works with edge !! www.minixm.com yippee!!

Guest MetalMessiah78 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Just a quick update. It started working all of a sudden on Thursday. It's a bit slower then I remember, but it's better then nothing.
Guest HighProtein Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 I would never pay for internet for a cell phone. Frankly with the money we pay it should be free! Atleast give every level of account a certain amount of access. Wi-Fi kicks Ass on the T-Mobile SDA most restaurants have unsecured connections that are quick.
Guest MetalMessiah78 Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 Well, my T-Zones has not stopped working ever since. Maybe it was just down for a few days, but it works fine and I can still access just about any website, minus streaming media.
Guest chaznet Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 (edited) A while back I got a SP5m to replace a Motorola model with TZones. Using the settings I found here, I had full internet access with my existing TZones account. Worked for months, then suddenly started working inconsistently, then stopped working altogether, unless I put my sim chip in the old Motorola where it still worked fine. Contacted support who couldn't initially help, they had someone call me back. He explained that TZones was not compatable with PocketPC Phones, or Smartphones, and that you had to get the more expensive Total Internet plan. He further explained their systems will eventually figure out and identify which type of phone is attempting to use TZones, and lock out those SDA's, MDS's, etc. At the time, I had no idea I shouldn't have been able to use TZones with the phone, as I also found similar settings posted at their support site. Enjoy it while you can... Really wish you didn't have to get HotSpots as part of the bundle -- while the WiFi is great, it eats up the battery too fast as well as adding $20 onto the bill...
