Hi

I saw my first 'E' icon today, and I succesfully downloaded emails while connected to it.

I'm a little confused about this stuff. I read that 'EDGE' was available in areas where 3G is not available.

How do I use 3G connectivity? My phone shows the G icons normally when connecting - is this GPRS or 3G?

Do I need to do anything to get 3G, or does it happen automatically?

Can anyone help me with this?

Cheers,

PaulF

That's a shame - I thought it had 'everything' !!

I've worked out why I though it had - if you read up about 3g on the Orange website, and list the phones available, it lists the first page of the 3G phones - there's a drop down on the top of the list to select by Brand - but if you select Orange (like I did) it then shows alll the Orange phones, not just the Orange 3g phones (and I didn't notice the title of the page change)

Also - I was offered a free trial of vdeo messaging when I registered my phone - how would that have worked without 3g??

Anyway -it's good to know the Edge thingy works - I didn't notice it was any faster - I'll try it again sometime and browse the net and see if I can notice nay improvement over GPRS...

Thanks

PaulF

I am with Orange and live in a non 3g and non Edge area! So much for them putting Edge where they havent got 3g...

Thus I get to see the E icon only when I am out and about.

Having said that, my data speeds are probably three times faster on edge than on gprs, but not emails - but that is to be expected.

Hi all, Long time SPV user, first time poster on here.

I noticed an "E" while on the bus yesterday, but decided that it must have been wrong because I thought that Orange weren't implementing Edge in the UK. I'm sure I read that somewhere?

Bummer, I should have used it when I saw it.

As Orange upgrade their cells they are upgrading the GPRS with EDGE, and they are concentrating on putting it where their 3g network is not yet available.

They launched the program to upgrade and roll out EDGE about six months ago.

If you get the edge "E", can you just automatically use edge, or do you have to get it activated on your tariff or anything? Does it cost any more?

For 3G you need a diferent SIM but I thik Edge sghould just work. 3G is charged the same as GPRS so I believe Edge is too.
