Guest smcb Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 I just recently got a US T-Mobile SDA (SP5 clone), unlocked it, reconfigured it, and i'm using it on Cingular. No problems what-so-ever, except for one. :) The WiFi will connect to the access points where I work (linksys access points, WEP 64 bit encryption) with no problems. However, it will NOT connect to my home network no matter how I configure it. (a linksys router, latest firmware, WEP 64 bit encryption or WPA encryption, mixed mode B & G) It is driving me crazy. Any idea why it will connect to one wifi network just fine, but refuses to connect to another one?
Guest smcb Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 A little more info....It looks like the SDA thinks my home network requires a personal certificate to be installed on the SDA? Anyone know why this would be the case? This baffles me as I can easily connect to my home network with any other computer. And it doesnt seem to matter if i'm configured for WEP or WPA. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 Do you filter your mac addreses? maybe worth checking that?
Guest smcb Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 Do you filter your mac addreses? maybe worth checking that? nope, no mac address filtering. i've got nothing unusual configured on the router.
Guest HighProtein Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 I have the most simple netgear wireless router and it finds the connection within minutes the first time and seconds everytime after.
Guest phillybits Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 I have the most simple netgear wireless router and it finds the connection within minutes the first time and seconds everytime after. I'm going to jump in on this one with regards to the "MDA." I'm interested in getting one and started a thread about WiFi access with regards to if it could connect to "any" open network. According to T-Mobile, no, just T-Mobile networks. According to commentors, yes, it can, and some have said they have. The SDA was one phone I was also considering. But would my approaching this conversation here as further confirmation that both the SDA and the MDA can connect to any WiFi network, my own, my work, my school, etc, so long as either it's an open network, or I have a network key? It would seem to me that ultimately, it's a pocket sized, mobile browser. God knows there's open networks all over the place. As well as a phone and app. machine.

Well, you probably already went here (https://onlinecare.cingular.com/support/content.do?page=phone-device-s upport) if you already unlocked the phone. But you may have missed a setting that eludes your detection of your home network. Curious, is your network only visible to the computers already on it or is it asking for the wep key? Only reason I ask is at first my Dell PDA couldnt connect to my network due to my linksys WRG54 being invisible to all comp's not already networked. Also, Im getting the SDA over the 2125 due to wifi, did you use SPV services to unlock or is another program needed?

Guest Koei Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Are you hinding your accespoint? I can't find my router here for the first if it's hidden. I unhided it, connected, entered WEP key and after that i hid it again. Now it connects without unhiding :)

Any idea why it will connect to one wifi network just fine, but refuses to connect to another one? Have you tried enabling 802.11g on your phone? Might be worth a try. A friend had a linksys router, and it wouldn't connect to my old laptop 802.11b card if any other g connections were running. Check here and here for more info. The registry entries should probably go under TIACXWLN1 instead. Let us know how it goes... :)
