Guest jasnewt Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 (edited) Has anyone out there bought and successfully used this application? I installed it on my C600 and registered it successfully according to an on screen message. Before registration you can search for any topic but the article that is displayed is entirely random. When you register it should work properly. I have two problems with the software: 1) When I install the basic data file and look up any subject there is no text displayed other than the standard Licence info wording that appears at the bottom of every Wikipedia article. 2) When I install the large (700MB) database text is displayed, but the text does not match the article heading. For example you could do a search on London and that heading is displayed, but the text below has nothing to do with that subject. It is as if the software isn't actually registered, but it definitely has been. Has anyone come across the problem and solved it? Has anyone successfully used this on a WM5 device? I have emailed Revolutionary Software Front, the software vendor but they have so far completely ignored my emails. Before I request a refund via Paypal, I just wondered if anyone had managed to solve these issues. Thanks, Jason. Edited June 29, 2006 by jasnewt

My friend bought a licence for this application, but has the same problem, all that shows up is the names of the articles in Wikipedia... Nothing is avaible offline... This is the lousiest application I have ever seen - they actually believe you will PAY for the Wikipedia headings, and then use GPRS etc to connect and read the article... 700 MB headings... AVOID!!! This is the lousiest application I have ever seen - they actually believe you will PAY for the Wikipedia headings, and then use GPRS etc to connect and read the article... 700 MB headings... AVOID!!! Thanks for your reply. The site sure doesn't claim you have to go online to read the articles, so is misleading at best. When using the 700MB file I do actually see text. It just isn't the right text for the article I am trying to look up. It certainly is a shoddy piece of software. Given the total lack of support I would agree that everyone else should avoid this. I have started a dispute with Paypal and if I don't get a satisfactory reply I'll escalate it to a claim where Paypal have to decide if I get a refund. Hopefully I will! Jason.
Guest jasnewt Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 A quick update: I raised a dispute via Paypal as I hadn't had a reply to my emails. About ten days later I received a message via Paypal giving me a link to a slightly different version of the Lexipedia.exe file, to be copied to the application directory. The message said this would enable me to use the 700MB data file, as I wanted to do. I tested it and it does indeed work. The article you select to read does bring up the correct text. The version number is 1.1 whereas the Lexipedia site only states 1.0. Whether they made this new version because of my complaint I don't know. I have closed the dispute as I now have a fully working version. I'm still not pleased with the time taken to reply to my request for support, and the fact I had to raise a Paypal dispute first. I am pleased though to have Wikipedia on my phone, and I'm sure it'll come in handy (the data file seems to be from about mid 2005 so whilst not up to date, not too bad). The time taken to reply to me does mean I can't exactly recommend the application. However, if the makers update the version on their site to the one they gave me, and you have over 700MB spare on your memory card for the unabridged data file, it's a good way of getting Wikipedia on your phone. If anyone is interested in trying it, make sure to download it before paying and make sure it is version 1.1 you have as that is the one that works for me. Please also note I have only tried it with the 700MB data file. Jason.
Guest flodis79 Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Thanks for this update. I see now that v1.1 is posted on the website - will tell my friend about and see if it can be used on that old licence bought.
