Guest sporkguy Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 Phone Scoop has received more details about the i770, a new Pocket PC phone coming from Samsung. The handset is a simple clamshell design that features a butterfly key keyboard like on Sony Ericsson's M600. Each key has two letters, pressing the left half of the key will input one letter while pressing the right will trigger the other. The large bulge in the hinge is a rotating 2 Megapixel camera with flash; it does not face the side, but rotates to face the user or to face out like on many other phones. Other features include Bluetooth, a Micro SD slot, an external color display and a jog switch for scrolling and for media playback control when the phone is closed. Previous FCC filings uncovered that the phone would be a tri-band (900/1800/1900) GSM/EDGE handset running Pocket PC. [Source]
Guest w411y Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 Nice to see a 2 megapixel camera with flash on a smartphone. But I'm shocked this device is from Samsung... its ugly as hell :) My view on Samsung phones were sleek, smooth and good looking... but this is a different story to me. Also, I havn't tried the keyboard but from the sounds of it I think I would prefer a numeric keypad tbh.
Guest rookie1082 Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 The keyboard is exactly the same (if not extremely close) as the Blackberry 7100 series phones. I absolutely loved that keyboard when i owned a blackberry, and that was the only reason i kept the phone for over a year. I just needed more "fun" with my phone, and blackberry isn't exactly the first brand that comes to mind with fun. I could type about 40 wpm with that keyboard, and the spelling mistakes were minimial with the recognition software that they had on it. The keys on this seem to be a bit weirder though (you actually have to push the left and right side of the key to find the right letter), but maybe they'll have a t9-like word recognition program built in. They almost have to. Either way, i'll be keeping my eye on this one. It just looks so huge.
Guest Tech Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 (edited) sorry to be dumb but whats the diff between miniSD and Micro SD? or are they the same thing but different termonology? plus no mention of the OS :) Edited June 30, 2006 by Tech

Guest sporkguy Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 sorry to be dumb but whats the diff between miniSD and Micro SD? or are they the same thing but different termonology? plus no mention of the OS :) miniSD = transflash
Guest Confucious Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 wrong. microSD = transflash :/ Very true - check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_card for more info on cards and types.
Guest sporkguy Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 lol yeah I meant MicroSD - I'd just woken up, apologies for the confusion :)
Guest Confucious Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 sporkguy - it didn't confuse me because I asumed you'd got right and didn't actually read yopur post properly :)
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 plus no mention of the OS :) In line with the rest of Samsungs i7xx series of phones, i'd imagine it'll be a PPC. Probably CDMA only too...
Guest R8nd0m Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 (edited) To learn a lot more about the upcoming I770 check the manual found here. So far I've read that: Its definitely a pocket pc It has a touch screen with 4 input modes 1.Keyboard 2.Letter Recognizer 3.Block Recognizer 4.Transcriber A rotating view It records video and it also makes a reference to sim cards in the guide so maybe this phone can be unlocked. From reading through the fcc's files one can speculate this phone will launch in Korea. The manual can also be downloaded here retrieve.pdf Edited July 6, 2006 by R8nd0m
