Guest niacin65 Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 Ok here it is. Step by step, and I have done it twice now, so I know it works. Those of you who have made the mistake of "upgrading" your phone using the download from Smart/Philippines website and now have a Sim lock-ed phone, here is what you can do to return it to an un-locked phone with full features: Here's what you will need.... bootloader 0.98, or 0.93. usbterm program (search google for it). SPVunlock program (search google for it). an SD card (I used a SanDisk 128 MB card, but you can use a much smaller one as the boot file is very tiny). the USB/charger cable that came with your smartphone. The Orange 1.35 or Smart 1.37 ROM file which is still available for download on their site or elsewhere. Active Sync 3.6 or 3.7 (on your smartphone CD). 1. Find a Smart Amazing phone that has the .98 bootloader. You verify this by starting the phone and holding in the record button at the same time, which gives you the three color "Canary" screen (strap mode). If it says .93 or .98 you have found the correct phone. 2. Take that phone and turn it off. 3. Then turn it on in "strap mode" (holding the record button pressing while power button) until you see a white screen that says "press any key to enter bootloader". Then press ANY key. 4. You should now be at the three colors "Canary" screen. 5. At this point Connect your power cable/USB cable (that came in the box) to your USB port of your PC. 6. Control/Alt/Del and close the wcescomm.exe program and related (if running). 7. Insert the SD card into the phone 8. Open a DOS prompt or START/RUN/COMMAND (CMD in win2k/XP) and type "usbterm" without the quotes. 9. type qfs ? (notice the SPACE after qfs) this gives you a list of commands to run in this program. 10. type qfs 10 this formats the SD card and wipes it clean 11. Type qfs 0 (the number zero) this copies the bootloader onto the SD card 12. After this has been copied, type quit and close the window. 13. To turn off that phone, remove the battery. Disconnect the USB cable, and remove the SD card. 14. Take the SD card you just loaded form your friend's phone and insert it into your locked phone. 15. Hold down the record button while pressing the power ON buton. You will now see a white screen that says "CARD FOUND" and it will ask if you want to LOAD the bootloader. You select yes by pressing the ACTION button. 16. It will say "download success". Then remove the battery. You have just replaced the bootloader 1.04 with whichever one was on the SD card. 17. To verify that you now have a phone with .98 or .93 bootloader in it, boot it up into strap mode again and press any key to get to the canary screen and see the version number of the bootloader. If it still says 1.04, you made a mistake somewhere. 18. If you have the correct bootloader now connect the USB cable again and run SPVunlock to get your unlock code. You have to CTRL/ALT/DEL again to turn off active sync if it's running, before it will function. 19. WRITE DOWN THE UNLOCK CODE 20. CTRL C and then close that program 21. Now run the Orange 1.35 or Smart 1.37 update .exe file 19. Active sync will run (it should) and you just follow the directions on the screen until the software is erased and the new software is installed. 20. After it's done, remove the USB cable and battery, and wait 30 seconds. 21. Turn the phone on normally......just wait, this can take a while for it to boot up. Make sure you have ANY Sim card already inserted. 22. You will eventually see the Orange/Smart logo screen, and a while after that it will boot normally. 23. Next you will get a prompt to enter the unlock code you wrote down. 24. In about 15 seconds you will get a "code ok" prompt. . 25. CONGRATULATIONS, your phone is now unlocked. 26 Then shut off the phone normally, don't wory if some programs appear to be missing at this point. 27. At this point, power up while holding down the record button, and hold down the ACTION button when you see the first white screen. You are now going to do a HARD RESET, and erase the IPSM. 28. Select option 8 (only one that shows on some phones) and it will erase the IPSM and say PASSED. 29. At this point you need to get back to the Canary screen, some phones you show an option for this, some dont, but all you do is toggle LEFT once and select option 3...which exits. 30. Next hold down the power button until the phone reboots.....don't woryr if it takes the phone a wile to do this...eventually it will boot normally. 31. You will now enter the unlock code one more time...and all of your programs, and phone's faetures will be working, and your phone will be SIM un-locked.
