Guest chrisbpr Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 is it possible access the net off an xbox 360 & rip music to the hard drive via the usb ports . i was thinking of getting a wmc but i wouldn't use all the fuctions so i was wondering how "like a pc " the xbox is.
Guest mupwangle Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 >>is it possible access the net off an xbox 360 No. You can only access xbox live. No actual internet browsing. >>rip music to the hard drive via the usb ports . I don't think so. You can rip from CD to HDD and playback from USB but not transfer between the two. >>i was thinking of getting a wmc but i wouldn't use all the fuctions so i was wondering how "like a pc " the xbox is. The 360 is purely a games machine. You might be better looking at a chipped original XBox.

No actual internet browsing. --- sorry, but correction - yes you can in a limited way... get WMC2005 browser and it works on the 360, u need a remote to be able to browse tho... it works fine and looks sweet on a HDTV... ok, flash or java aint fully supported yet, but can check emails etc... >>rip music to the hard drive via the usb ports . Guest nickcornaglia Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 http://www.moremce.com/plugin_detail.php?plugin_id=131 There is a browser plugin for WMC that works on the xbox. I didnt put it thru it's paces but did view a site or 2 on it. Shows flash as well. Is it just me or does it take forever for WMC to connect on the xbox? (In general...not the browser)

(In general...not the browser) no its not just you m8, takes ages for WMC to connect to my pc, almost enuff time for a cuppa tea, and the browsing of videos etc takes ages as it previews all the files first... stoopid MS could have made it use the HDD as a thumbnail cache, making it faster... :)
Guest goochy1 Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Do you need to link the 2 via usb ? or will the xbox wireless adapter do the job ? Goochy1
Guest veef13 Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Do you need to link the 2 via usb ? or will the xbox wireless adapter do the job ? Goochy1 wireless should be fine, if a little jerky on HD films etc... I use the network port and have the 360 hardwired into my home network and it works flawlessly... no idea on usb tho... must say, upgrading to vista premium make a massive difference, totally new interface, more codecs and generally nicer/faster to use!
Guest goochy1 Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 So using the wireless adapter (£59.99) that get me the wireless link for xbox live and it'll do the same for the WMC - does it do both at once ?? Cheers Goochy1

Cheers Goochy1 should do mate, as long as you have a 54mbs router and your pcs on that network it should be fine, if a little choppy with high res video... i really would recomend going the hardwired route tho if you can to increase your bandwidth... you dont have to actually use the WMC extender you can setup the xbox tosee your pc hardd drives too... oh, and just to confirm, to get a media center interface, you have to be running with Windows Media Center 2005 or vista home premium/ultimate, otherwise you can just setup file shares... hope this helps
