Changing Right Soft Key to New SMS?

This might be a bit of a noob question, but I am trying to change the Right Soft Key Contacts button on my i-mate SP5/O2 XDA IQ to New SMS (as a don

Yeh there was a topic about this a while ago.

Its got a cab file so it means it will tweak the phone automatically!

If you want to do it bay hand replace SMS with whateve the text messaging option is in the Messaging list.

EG replace "SMS" with "Text Messaging"

I tried the CAB on that page, but I got an error saying that it was not designed for this device.

I have also tried some of the other combinations such as:

"\Windows\tmail.exe"-service "SMS" -to "" -body ""

\Windows\tmail.exe-service "SMS" -to "" -body ""

"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "Inbox" -to "" -body ""

\Windows\tmail.exe-service "Inbox" -to "" -body ""

"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "Text Messaging" -to "" -body ""

\Windows\tmail.exe-service "Text Messaging" -to "" -body ""

But I either got cannot find tmail.exe or it just loads the Account selection page with out going to the New SMS screen :)

Has any one else had this problem on the i-mate SP5/O2 XDA IQ and is there a command that will just jump straight to the New SMS screen?

If you get a message about TMail not being found then the quotes around the path are wrong.

TMail.exe lives in /Windows, which is in the search path, so if you get the list of accounts the path to TMail is correct - if not it's wrong.

Replace SMS with the name of the Text Messaging account and it should work. You're still using SMS which is why its not working

try "Text Messages" instead of "SMS". also see my post on changing voice note button function to save you editing the registry. enter the application path and the relevant arguements for a new text message and check right button not voice notes.

I tried setting the Open value to:

20#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to "" -body ""

Which just says that tmail.exe was not found

I'm using the following line which brings me into my Inbox of Text Messages:

23#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS"

From there I just select "New" to create a new SMS.

Maybe it's the "23#" part that makes it work?

(Would like to know what the numbers exactly mean!)

Edit: I remapped the ORIGINAL SMS button, so maybe that's the "23#"...

Its odd because if I make a shortcut to 20#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS -to "" -body "" it works fine and goes to the New Text message screen, but if I set the right button to this command or just point it to the link it still only just opens the account selection screen without processing the command line options ;)

So I think I will give up on this one unless any one can make a little app that will run the command and then close! :)

Does anyone know what the key number for the little mail button on the right of the phone is? (113 is the right key)

Maybe this will work: open Date and Time applet using shortcut.

1. Create an LNK (shortcut) with this code. Save your code as *.lnk

00#"\Windows\settings.exe" clock.cpl.xml

2. Move the LNK to your Start Menu folder

3. Enter the full path of LNK as 'Open' value data. Refer to this link for details. Don't forget to assign value to 'Default'

So for example on C550, it would be HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Home\Keys\113\Open

Open = "\Storage\windows\Start Menu\Date and Settings.lnk"

just create your shortcut as above but save it asShort_AP2.lnk and paste it into your windows folder to change the function of your message key. worked great for me when changing it to WMP

you have to create the shortcut in notepad then using the file explorer on your phone copy it to your windows directory, it will ask ifyou wish to overwrite it, you cant copy the files out of the rom or delete them but you can overwrite them with other files of the same name + type, make sure your sp5 is app unlocked

I think it is unlocked as it lets me install most programs on it. Just can't seem to delete or edit files that are already on my phone (in the ROM?).

Do I still need to unlock it? If so what
