Guest Wudang Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Just posted to Wesstek the following. Anybody else found the same problems? On ClearVue Image the application will open up a picture e.g.*.jpg but does not return any softkey menu control nor can you naviagate via the back key from the opened image so as to choose another image from the file directory. Only by returning to the home screen can you access the file directory and if you select a new image to view it will not open but will revert to the already opened picture. The only way therefore to view a new picture is to shut the application down via task manager and then go through the whole procedeure again. The pdf viewer is very erractic. Sometimes returning "The file specified is an invalid file format or could not be opened by ClearVue PDF" error message so I have no access to the application, on other occassions opening the file but only displaying the text element and not the image element from within the file or returning a completely blank image and just occassionally reading the document without issue. I cannot see any commonality regarding which PDF version of the file causes what problem - it is just erratic! Also discovered while trying to delete a pdf file from my Smartphone - one of the files I was using to test out the previous issues raised - that it will not allow its deletion returning "Failed to delete file". In an attempt to delete the file I synced via ActiveSync, accessed the file via my PC and was informed "Cannot delete file. There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use". There is no ClearVue application running as informed by the phone's in-built task mamanger. Also took the time to check ClearVue Presentation and identified that at the end of a slide show you are given the message "Select End Show to Exit" but once again there is no softkey menu avaialable so you have to exit via the home screen then hit the back key which takes you back to the normal slide view and control via softkey menus! Program installed to Storage Card and running the latest firmware on the phone Not very impressed with the software - 2 applications run fine, 3 are buggy to a greater or lesser extent. Not a great hit rate.
Guest Trombone Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Hi there I have the exact same problem. Especially with the viewer. Not very impressive. I did post about this and wondered how no one else had the same problem - then I realised I posted it in the wrong forum!! Please let me know what response you get from Westtek as I'd really like this program to work! Quite why MS don't provide a smartphone viewer I'll never know! Thanks TB PS I installed to the phone memory so that's not the reason for the error! I wondered if it stopped working after the AKU2 update....
Guest Wudang Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 PS I installed to the phone memory so that's not the reason for the error! I wondered if it stopped working after the AKU2 update.... No it was crap before then. I bought it back in Dec when the smartphone version was announced on MoDaCo. I just couldn't be arsed up to now to audit report the errors but work's a bit slow at the moment ;) This is the only program I'm running that is as buggy as hell but until something else comes along beggars can't be choosers. Everything else installed on my phone (paid for and freeware) namely Sprite Backup, Pocket TV, PM Recorder, MSW, Stopwatch 8, EzAlarm, GPRS Traffic Monitor - roll on moving across to T-Mobile web'n'walk this Oct :) and Stowaway Keyboard all work perfectly. The fact the last press release on the Westtek site announces the release of WM 2003 for Pocket PC back in June 2003 might be a clue as to their rather laid back approach to keeping on top of things :)

I figured that out by just playin around with it. Also took the time to check ClearVue Presentation and identified that at the end of a slide show you are given the message "Select End Show to Exit" but once again there is no softkey menu avaialable so you have to exit via the home screen then hit the back key which takes you back to the normal slide view and control via softkey menus! Probably the same issue as with the image viewer. Hope this helps!

Now I just need to get the pdf viewer susssed and I'll have to retract my bad mouthing of ClearVue's software. On the other hand as they don't issue any user manual nor do they choose to scrawl across the support pages of their website "To learn how to use this product please post your question to the relevant MoDaCo forum" I think I'm justified in thinking ill of them :)

I haven't had any of the problems you have here with the Suite, and I even have it installed to the SD card, so it would easily create alot of problems. I only had a problem with a dll file that wasnt transferred to the new version when I upgraded.. I had to downgrade, get the file, then upgrade and put it there.. Huh... Not really out of the beta stages yet you may wonder sometimes... :) Edited July 6, 2006 by flodis79
Guest lapimate Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 ... The pdf viewer is very erra[]tic. Sometimes returning "The file specified is an invalid file format or could not be opened by ClearVue PDF" error message ... Westtek informed me (SP3 WM SP 2003SE) that: "The 'invalid format' message is displayed because your document is encrypted. ClearVue PDF version 2.41 does not support encrypted documents. You can check if a document is encrypted by opening the PDF document from the desktop and checking the 'Security' setting from 'File | Document Properties'. If the document is password protected or any [my emphasis] of the security options are listed as not allowed then the document is encrypted. We are planning support for encrypted PDF documents in a future release of ClearVue for the Smartphone scheduled for summer/fall 2006." This issue does not appear to be mentioned in the FAQ. I do not believe it is what most users would understand by "encrypted". It cripples ClearVue PDF from my point-of-view since I often receive .pdf files which for example have "Commenting" "Not Allowed".

Like yourself the security option issue will make using the pdf viewer pretty redundant for me. 4 out of 5 apps working is better than the 2 out of 5 I began with prior to enlisting the good people of MoDaCo to come to the rescue. The real answer I guess is for MS to pull their finger out and supply what I consider to be a fairly basic requirement for using this as a smartphone. :)
