Well, I'll assume you mean the SPV C600 as opposed to the SPV M600.

The C600 is a Smartphone while the M600 is a Pocket PC. The main difference is that the Smartphone is in mobile phone form factor with keyboard and without touch screen while the Pocket PC relies on its touch screen.

The C600 will only run Smartphone software (software intended for Windows Mobile 5 for Smartphone) while the M600 will mostly only run Pocket PC software (Windows Mobile 5 for Pocket PC).

Another major difference is that the SPV M600 includes wifi hardware where the SPV C600 doesn't...

Which should you get? Only you can answer that, it'll depend on what you're looking for (a mobile with pda features or a pda with phone features?)...

Neither - switch to T-Mobile and take advantage of cheep data :)

Apart from that, Pondrew is, as usual, spot on.

Ive got a similar dilemma myself with the C600/M600 choice. Just got back into the UK and want to get one of the two but which network to choose? Whats Orange like these days or whos the best for data etc? Orange's site just says the C600 is out of stock all the while so I might comsider another carrier who have smartphones, any pointers are welcome.

Orange are awful. T are the only ones who do data at a sensible price (

Whats the difference between th C 500 and C600 ? Just called Orange and theyre in the dark as to when they are going to have any C600's or M600's , they have the C500 in stock but Im not sure on the difference between the C500/600. Im going to be using Messenger and a few apps so would it be worth waiting for new stock C600's that they dont have a date for arrival?

The SPV C500 (HTC Typhoon) is a very old but capable Smartphone. It's biggest drawbacks today are the older operating system (Windows Mobile 2003SE) and lack of QVGA although it could be argued that the OMAP 730 processor is two generations out of date too given we've since had both the OMAP 750 in the SPV C550 (HTC Hurricane) and the OMAP 850 in subsequent Smartphones...

Funnily enough it's probably STILL the best Smartphone when it comes to form factor and battery life!

But I still wouldn't go with O for a smartphonme now - if you're going to use data T are the onle option!

If the C500's on 2003 I wont bother then, its looking like the 02 XDA mini s then. If Orange dont even have a projected date for new stock its a bit of a worry, could be months. Anyone got any objections to getting the XDA?

No objections Kelv23 but if you're interested in an O2 Business tariff then you could get a state of the art Smartphone. The HTC Tornado based XDA IQ is identical hardware to the i-mate SP5 and arguably the best Smartphone today.

Unfortunately O2 only seem to be offering XDA IQ stock on upgrades and to new customers signing upto the Business Tariffs. I'm on the verge of signing up but torn by the better value T-Mobile tariff and data package and the hope that the Vario II will arrive within the next fortnight AND be free as an upgrade.

Again data cots are high on O2 - but only if you're going to use lots. The IQ is a good phone if you can get it.

Yeah, it's only because I next to never use GPRS on my Smartphone that I'll be happy with the inclusive half meg that comes with O2s business tariff. Don't see the point in using Internet/Email on my Smartphone when my Pocket PC Phone is on Web N Walk and has better screen/more potential!

Funnily enough I use the Smartphone predominantly as my main phone and music player with my Pocket PC Phone as my PDA and backup phone/music player! :)

Is the Vario II a 3G phone or WIFI or both?

Can you use the web-n-talk as unlimited data using WIFI?

Guest Confucious

Hermes (probably won't be called Vario II ) is both. WiFi doesn't use chargeable data so is irrelivent. it is also HSDPA (Hi Speed 3G) compatable so with Wn'W Pro you will get even faster data!

Guest Pondrew

Hey Dalecon, both!

The Vario II is beyond 3G in fact being HSDPA (hope I've remembered that right!). That means it's got the potential to be faster then 3G as far as data speeds go. It does also include wifi so yes you could use that for data too but the basic Web N Walk actually offers 1gig of data (subject to terms and conditions) so you can just hammer the GPRS/3G and not have to worry about going beyond your allowance!

Oh, and it's got video calling so it's all there!
