Guest jasperkins Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 First thanks again for a great forum. I have learned alot on writing XML homescreens :-) I have been playing with the Orange plugin and I have a few things I just dont understand. I have been looking for code snipets for this plugin with remarks, but I just cant find the answers. Question 1. What does the group option do in the Orange plugin? why would I use it? Is this for nesting the orange plugin within the Orange plugin? For example: Question 2: So I ceated an orange plugin row of 240 x 75. Then I divided it into 2 widths of 120. Is it possible to break one section into Rows? For example in section 2 (120 x75) I want to display 5 horizontal rows showing: Section 1......................................Section 2 ***** 120 x 75 *******.......******** 120 x 75 ******* Email Vmail SMS.................................................Weather plugin Profile calls So can I break an orange plugin section into Horizontal rows? Thx- Jason
Guest w411y Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 The grouping options means that if you scroll through one line and the other line is in the same group then it scrolls at the same time. Pretty crap explanation... see this thread ... http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=236194&st=0
Guest jasperkins Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 Thanks Wally :) The Orange plugin really looks promising. I need to play with it a bit more. J.
Guest w411y Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 Thanks Wally :D The Orange plugin really looks promising. I need to play with it a bit more. J. Promising but damn fiddly. Its nto for the light hearted ;) DrBlow released a screen with the Orange plugin and there's a tutorial packed inside the download, I'll hunt it down when I've got time (Its on this forum I believe its non QVGA) Jamma has also got work with good examples of the Orange plugin in his Mac and XP screens :)

I'll look too for it. In the intrim, does anyone know if I can create Rows within an Orange Plugin? I'm trying to "stack" information vertically within a 1/3 (75 width out of 240) portion of an Orange Plugin. However it seems I can only create colums and not rows. And the colums will only let me display 1 plugin. :-(

Maybe I could somehow wrap shorcuts instead down to the next row within Orange? Here is a screenshot of what I am trying to do. Basically I want to move the SMS, MAIL, Calls, Vmail, and Profile to the first section of an Orange Plugin (current where missed calls is showing - to the left of the Date / Time). I'm just not sure how to as of yet I have set a height of 75, but I just cant get the info to display all in 1 columun. I woul think I should be able to nest plugins somehow, but it seems that I am restricted to Columns. Edited July 9, 2006 by jasperkins
Guest jasperkins Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 I must be crazy, as i spent ~8 hours yesterday straight playing with the Orange plugin again. I really like the possibilities, but hate the hidden limitations. I was reading in the forums that DrBlow E200 Cobalts theme had a doc on this plugin, but when I downloaded the zip file, I didnt see it. ok- here is another quick question (since I cant figure it out :-) ) It appears that the orange plugin takes on the attributes of the first column in the row. What I mean that if I have date in column 1 (which is a non-interactiove plugin) and then sms in colum 2, profile in column 3, etc., SMS and Profile wont show. Yet if I remove date from Column 1, SMS and Profile show just fine. So how do I get around this limitation of having a static plgin in a row? Also is it possible to keep 1 column always on the screen, and cycle through all the other colums? (like paging off to the right)? I need to play with this part. Finally I have discovered that you cant put Facade in a column and expect to still scroll down through apointments, etc.
Guest w411y Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 The help on the plugin may be in the XML of cobalt. With Facade, try using it without the tab, so jsut the window. Sorry I can't help you any further, I have not really got stuck into the plugin

Strange this is that the Orange plugin code does not work the same for the WM5 Q. Maybe something has changed, but the standard Orange plugin XML designed pages just wont port without changes to the plugin code.

I too looked insinde the cobalt screen and couldn't find it. The only thing I found was a tutorial on making icon resources. thanks, bcell
Guest drblow Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 You should all take a read through the cobalt thread. There's quite a bit of discussion there about various attributes of the plugin, written by some people who really know what they are talking about - and I don't mean me!!:) Also maybe have a look at the other themes I have done using the orange plugin, eg outlook, panther, GV ... looking through the xml will be far more informative than any tutorials or anything. I believe the plugin behaviour has changed under WM5 - infact I assume that if you have a WM5 phone then you have added the Orange plugin from another previous model that you owned?? :( I believe the behaviour of the plugin is affected by the transition to WM5 phones. It wasn't written for them & so may well suffer from problems that cannot be rectified ...

I've been looking through yours and others xml code (with Orange plugin) and have been playing around with it too. I guess I don't really need a tutorial; there's just 1 thing I haven't quite figured out yet. Can you tell me what the handlekeys attribute does? What is the difference between child and focus? thanks again
