Hi

Sometimes, to say the least, my phone fails to boot up. It's an imate sp5m.

It displays the Imate greeter screen (and stays there longer than normal), then Windows mobile greeter, then "HTC Innovation" and freezes.

I have everyu time to pull and reinsert the battery, then it'll boot normally.

I haven't installed anything low-level except WM5torage, but I suppose the 99% of forumists have already installed that wonderful app.....

This is getting to bug me because in the last week it happened 2 times....

Any ideas? opinions? acknowledgements?

It actually will start... at least partially. I believe it will respond (at least power off) if you hold the power key down. I'm not exactly sure why it does it though. The only solution I know of is to do a hard reset.

Did you notice it by yourself?

I haven't tried to power it off using the powerbutton when it's frozen, but I don't think it's an advancement :)

Anyway I've noticed it happens most of the times when the phone isn't shut down correctly.

Sometimes when I shut it down it takes slightly more time, and then the next startup will freeze.

Once it happened that it froze while shutting down (i was going to sleep), I pulled and reinserted the battery and the next morning it wouldn't start at all - no Imate screen, no LED blink, etc - i was already panicking... it turned out that too little time had passed between pulling out the battery and reinserting it, last night, probably leaving some spurious data somewhere in the RAM....

Strange, these WM5 devices, aren't them?....

I am with Merwin, you probably have a corrupted file or program and will have to do a HARD RESET on your phone. There are two ways of doing this. It's not too daunting and your phone will run much smoother afterwards. These WM5 devices are more akin to a a PC than a phone.

Yes, they are strange. mine used to do that. It stopped doing it when i upgraded to the latest firmware. i would recommend that you upgrade to the latest firmware, install only your critical applications, configure your device to your liking, and then use sprite backup to create a self extracting backup so you can easily restore if anything like this happens again.

of course i've already upgraded to the latest version, but my problems seem to have begun with that.

this new version isn't so good all in all, it also added a couple bugs in the comm management (WiFi turns on on its own, and sometimes even BT).

anyway I haven't installed anything heavy on my phone, it's even got a good 8 mb of free internal storage.

i'll ignore it...

meanwhile if any other has something to say..... :)

I actually have another thing to check... see if you have headphones plugged into the phone when it gets turned on/reboots. I seem to recall with my problem it happened more often when I had the headphones plugged in. I'm not sure if I ever figured out if it was the headphones or the phone that was faulty, but i ended up trading my SP5m for the T-Mobile SDA 2.

Surely, I never had the headphones plugged in when it hanged.

May be that when I use the headphones to listen to the music, then the next reboot it will freeze, but it seems much strange to me....

well i'll ignore it ....

thanks anyway!
