Activesync on M500 over Bluetooth

Hi everyone.

Firstly, what a great forum ..... I have been using Coolsmartphone as my only real resource for pocket PC related stuff, and good though that undoubtedly is, there is a lot of really interesting information over here, and loads of helpful people with a great deal of knowledge !

Having said that, this is my first post , and I sincerely hope that I won't be breaking any forum etiquette by asking a question that has been asked and answered elsewhere. I promise that I have used the search facility ( for about and hour!) and I have googled the queston a number of times, and I have even ( you can see how desperate I was!) tried looking on Microsoft's own Windows Mobile site for some answers. All to no avail.

My problem is that I have now spent a whole day trying to get my SPV M500 to synchronise to my laptop using Bluetooth.

When I started doing this at about 11 oclock, I was pretty happy with my life, and felt that once I had achieved my goal, I might go and sit in the garden, with a nice cold drink, perhaps read a book , or amuse myself by synchronising my M500 to my PC...........

Now, I feel sick with rage, the sun has gone in, it's nearly 7pm and there are prominent throbbing veins in my temples that are giving me a headache :) My day off is all gone, and I still have not achieved my goal!

I would be incredibly grateful if anyonewho has managed to get this working could tell me exactly how they did it .........

I am running Windows XP Home Edition (SP2) and I have the Orange SPV M500 with Activesync Version 3.8 which came on the disc provided with the 'phone.

I do not get any error messages , except when I try and use the bluetooth activesync setup facility on the 'phone, when it says 'please start bonding with other bluetooth device which supports serial port or activesync profile as your activesync partner'

I already have the 'phone bonded to my PC , and can send and receivefiles to / from it over bluetooth from the little bluetooth icon in the system tray / taskbar on the PC.

Many thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Dan.

The best thing to do is to delete the existing bluetooth pairing between your pc and your device.

Then use the three point procedure covered very well in the Activesync help (just search for bluetooth). It works very well - you probably dont have serial ports set up correctly for the syncing.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately, my Activesync help does not have anything at all when I search for bluetooth. It does provide info on Infrared and Cable connections though. Perhaps I should get a newer version of activesync - although I am using the one that came in the box with the M500. As to the serial ports settings , I am sure that you are right ... but I don't know what the right settings are :)

Thanks anyway,

Cheers,

Dan.

From memory you should be using activesync 3.7 or 3.8 and they have the correct procedure for Bt syncing in their help files.

I dont know if 4.2 will work with wm2003se but it might be worth a try.

You could try Pocket Bluetooth Tools. Worked for me during my Activesync Bluetooth teeth grinding sessions.

Failing that, are you using Windows XP SP2 generic bluetooth software or bluetooth software that came with your bluetooth dongle?

Many thanks Palindrome ... I will give that a try , and post the results!

Dan.
