Guest nedge2k Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 [teaser] What's that smell? Is it the smell of $300,000 burning a hole in your pocket? It is? Well do we have the Smartphone for you... What you see here, in all it's black, shiny lovelyness is an extremely limited edition WM5 Smartphone from Swiss manufacturer VIPN. How extreme? Try five! That's right, only five of these babies will ever be made and even with hefty price tag, you can be sure they won't be on sale for long. Why? Well, check the specs...[/teaser]Quadband802.11g WiFi2.0" 256k TFT screen128MB RAMSIP (for VOIP)WM5Touch sensitive keypad4MP camera400Mhz Intel Xscale CPUAll pretty standard so far right? Not worth $300,000? Throw in some diamonds, encase it in titanium, polycarbonate and that's where your dosh is going. Plus of course the exclusivity of having one of the only five of these in existance! I don't know about the rest of you but there doesn't really seem to be anything really groundbreaking here. It's all stuff we've all seen before with the added bonus of runing Windows Mobile (if that can be called a bonus :) ). However, it does look cool and I think we'd all be happy with those specs in our Smartphones. The VIPN Smartphone will be available in early 2007. More information can be found HERE. [Source]
Guest Confucious Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I thought we'd all already ordered these....
Guest Animefan Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I thought we'd all already ordered these.... I was like OMG DROOOL! when I read the specs :) But as it now says 2007 I might not anymore.. Theres around 1 year till then and by then all the Smartphones has WM5, 128mb ram and atleast a 2 Mega Pixel camera, so its only rarity seems to be its limited edition

Guest FRiC Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 So Sony Ericsson is making WM5 phones now? :)

Guest mcwarre Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 So at $300,000 each with 5 made does it mean the C600 Modaco edition (50 made) is worth one tenth of $300,000 i.e. $30,000? I'll not be greedy so pm me offers over $3,000!! :) ;)
Guest sporkguy Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I'd rather have my 1 out of 50 Limited MoDaCo Edition C600s thanks :) a few of my friends were cooing over it last nite in the pub.. "its so pretty" etc
Guest fluffcat1 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 (edited) Vapourware from a company desperate for PR methinks. I doubt we'll see it made. I tried to buy an Axia win CE phone from them and they had no availablity or timescales - and that model was already in production, so I can't see how they can design and source an exclusive handset if they can't even get stock of a standard one. And as for the price? Considering how the company pushes the fact that VoIP is FREE and how they offer value for money it's a bit pie - in - the - sky and doesn't fit with the image of the company IMO I'm sure we've seen this concept before as well? I've*never* seen a flush mounted digitiser so I *really* doubt it's touchscreen. edit - it's specs state 'touch sensitive keypad panel' not 'touchscreen'. oops. And as in the post below, I knew they'd been hawking it for a while - it's been mentioned on these very boards at some time so I'll have a search.... Richard Edited July 22, 2006 by fluffcat1
Guest loki_f Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I thought I had seen this before.... http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=442068 Quite some time ago it seems....
Guest fluffcat1 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Wonder if they do them on PAYG? Maybe P.A.L.A.Y.G? ( Pay a lot as you go).... Do you honestly think someone who drops 300K on a phone ever sees a phonebill let alone a topup scratchcard? :) ( Hmmm, scratchcards - speaking of which, it does strike me as a lottery-winner's phone...) Richard
Guest demusss Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Aren't all keypads touch sensitive?? Pointless having a keypad that doesn't know its been pressed!!
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I'm going to go reserve VIPNusers.com RIGHT NOW! :)
Guest fluffcat1 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 So Sony Ericsson is making WM5 phones now? :) Along the edge I can see 'Black Diamond' - a trading name of Mitsubishi Electric. Trium Smartphone anyone?...Or maybe they'll put one of their decent brands on it ;) Richard

Guest mcwarre Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) How about borrowing one for review and letting parcelforce loose it on return? ;) Not like them to make it loose . They often lose it though :) Edited July 23, 2006 by mcwarre
Guest fluffcat1 Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) They often lose it though ;) If they often lose it, and there are only 5 of them in existence (well not quite yet anyway), does that mean they keep finding it as well so that they can lose it again?.. :) Richard Edited July 23, 2006 by fluffcat1
