Guest jm012a9749 Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Ok so i've set up my push email account and exchange server on mail2web.com but it uses ridiculous ammounts of data.. so until i get my WnW plan i was wondering if it is possible to sync with the exchange server over a WiFi connection because active sync keeps telling me i need a celluar data connection :) . Can it be done and if not why not? btw have a qtek 8310 with latest qtek ROM Phil
Guest chucky.egg Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 My Wizard can sync over WiFi or GPRS, but I have to use different settings for each - so you can't easily swap between the two

Guest jimbouk Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 As long as you have set your device up to sync directly with the server, then it should manually sync (or sync at preset intervals) over a valid wifi connection. As long as you can browse the web via wifi, you can sync. (Its a good idea to turn off direct push though to stop it using the existing gprs connection).

Guest AximMarkSD Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 thanks guys :) but why doesn't push email work over wifi? Phil i think b/c it can't maintain a connect or at least any wifi connection is a manual one.
Guest jimbouk Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Firstly - the directpush environment is designed specifically for mobile devices and MS's thinking apparently is that if you are connected to a wifi network, you wouldnt need push email as you can connect to your office anyway, secondly the networks would not be happy if they gve you a device that was used to bypass their gprs service permanently and thirdly who leaves their wifi on all the time? If I am at work/home, I read my emails on my laptop, and only use directpush when out and about.
