Hi,

I'm looking at moving away from o2 to T-Mobile for the unlimited GPRS mainly to setup push email. How reliable is this? For example if I leave GPRS conencted now and tell the Mini S to check for mail every 15 mins I don't get a notification. All the options are turned on, it just doesn't beep or vibrate or let me know mail has arrived. If I were to pay for the GPRS plan I'd want it to be like a Blackberry and alert me straightaway.

On another note I'm thinking of setting up an Exchange box to learn on and doing the email myself. I have two mail domains and use email on them both. Can I have these both delivered to Exchange then both account pushed out to the device? Currently in Outlook I have one PST file with a rule that moves mail sent to account B to another folder. I don't mind this on the phone but can I do this through Exchange/on the phone to keep the same folder structure? This isn't ideal cause as I understand it at the moment if mail goes to a subfolder you don't get notified. Is that right?

cheers for any help :)

I'm finding it super-reliable. And quick. An email sent from my work PC to my nominated Exchange server typically arrives on my phone in 4 or 5 seconds. There's obviously lots of links in the chain that could break, but I've not had a problem.

Anything sent to the inbox gets pushed, quite how you get the items from your two mail accounts into the one inbox will probably be a matter of choice. I have all my Gmail etc accounts forward to there, my firewall strips out a good amount of spam and I get pushed all the things I actually want.

As for folders/Exchange rules, I'll not be much help - I don't use them. I think you're right that only Inbox items (not items sent direct to subfolders) get pushed. Not 100% sure though...

Can you use your hotmail account with it or do you have to have a new email address?

I'm afraid not. You need to set up a new Push Email account. I currently have all my Gmail forwarded on to my mail2web account. My phone seems to receive email quicker than the Gmail notifier

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to have a think about how best to use it with two accounts. One of the drawbacks of using POP on the device is having to download all emails again at the main PC and work out which ones have been replied to and sort out sent items etc hence looking at direct push.

Re notifications. How are people finding this? I', still having problems with the Wizard alerting me when a new mail is received. Not something that can be lived with if I'm going to use it for mail every day.

cheers

No problem with push e-mail alerts, come through load and clear. It's my calendar appointments alerts I don't get any more!

I'm finding it about 75/25 right now - 25% of the time it doesn't seem to get my new mail notifications. I will check with my IT department to see how it is set up, so I can't really say who's fault it is.

FWIW, I really like this feature, but will switch back to 10m polling if it doesn't get better.

I'm half tempted to try mail2web's free offering but unfortunately the GPRS charges on o2 are just too high at the moment. I'm toying with buying out and going to Tmobile but not sure if it's worth it as yet. Ah well, POP will have to do for the time being.

I've managed to set up my gmail account to be forwarded through mail2web to my Vario.

This maybe a stupid question but do I need to be continually connected to my GPRS to receive emails.

Just wondering how people have there email set up if they are using mail2web and gmail. Do they have it forwarded and then download it through pop later onto a PC?

Any comments welcome. Thanks
