Quick Launch Panel

I don't suppose this will be the most taxing problem posted recently, but can somebody help ....

I've recently got an MDA Vario (really pleased so far), the only thing I can't sus out is how to make the Quick Launch Panel appear on the Today screen. How to use it is described in the manual (yes - I have read it!) but not how to make it appear. Or has it been deleted from more recent versions of the software? A shame if it has as it looks handy.

Hi,

Start>Settings>Today

Select the 'Items' tab, here you'll find all your today screen plugins (Messaging, Calendar etc) tick the T-Mobile box to enable the quick launch plugin on your today screen :)

Thanks. I've tried that and there is no T-Mobile box on the items tab. Any other thoughts?!

Well that is strange,

In all honesty the T-Mob plugin is pretty limited anyway, for a better plugin have a look at cLaunch LINK a bit fiddly to set up but 100% configurable, and free!

Thanks again - I've had a look at the cLaunch site and it looks good. How do you get on with these downloads? I swore I wasn't going to do it with my MDA as I'm a bit bad doing it on my laptop and it seems to slow it down a lot.

Re-reading the manual there are one or two other things that differ on my phone. I can only get the MIDlets programme by going through the memory settings (i.e. not thru' programmes) - this has caused me problems as I've downloaded the Onspeed Mobile free trial and it's a hassle going thru' that process every time I want to use it. Mind you from initial impressions I don't think I'll be paying to carry on with it! Also there isn't the smart dialling function - or at least not where the manual says it should be.

None of these are serious omissions, just a bit annoying that I can't sort it myself!

If you wanna DL it straight to your phone get the CAB.zip, extract the CAB and simply click it to install, altgough I just went to try it for you to test the size and their server seems to be down at he mo...

Regarding your phone it sounds like you've got a couple of oddities there, you say you've not had the phone long, and probably not customised it too much, I'd do a hard reset; and if you're gonna do that you may as well make sure you've got the latest ROM while you're at it. Press the comms manager button and if you only have four icons it's the old one, the latest ROM can be found here:http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/mdas.html if you have seven icons then simply do a hard reset and this should sort out your problems (Start>Setings>System tab>Clear Storage.

Just make sure your battery is fully charged first!

and back up everything you want to keep of course!!

Thanks for all that.

I've got 7 icons in coms manager so I must have the newest version. I'll go onto the web and see if it picks up anything though. A hard reset sounds a bit scary having only just mastered the thing but I'll give it a go. I've put SatNav on it and set up my e-mail accounts, but I guess none of that took very long.

I've got exactly the same problem as you - did you ever solve it? I have a t-mobile mda compact III. I've tried all the sources of help from t-mobile and Microsoft and can't find any mention of this problem. My manual implies the Quick Launch Panel should appear automatically and says nothing about being able to 'hide' or 'show' it.

Hi. Yes, I did solve it although only recently and more by accident than design. Because I was having other problems with it, I decided (on the advice of the local T-Mobile shop!) to return it and get a new handset (I am on a business tariff which means you get a new one sent out by courier). I was advised to delete all the software I had put on the 'old' handset and return it to its default option. When I had done this and turned it back on it reinstalled windows mobile etc., with the quick launch panel and all the other features it was missing! So I never bothered returning it. I think the problem is a limited number of handsets don't get started up properly at the factory/shop, but you have no way of knowing that until you re-do it.

If this doesn't work, console yourself with the thought that the panel is of no benefit whatsover as far as I can see!

Many thanks for this - at least now I know what I have to do! I was beginning to suspect that I might have to do a hard reset at the very least, though reluctant to to do it since it would now require a lot of work to input all my settings etc again.
