Guest tommyb Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Yesterday i got caught in the mother of all thunderstorms, and even though it was in a bag, my vario got pretty soaked. Last night it was going crazy - screen not responding, and just turning on and off, so I left it to dry out overnight. Today, it seems to be working normally, but the left hand led is constantly lit green. Is it my imagination or is this new? I remember it used to be off, but when you look at it for a while it's hard to remember... So, could any kind wizard owners tell me what the *normal* situation is? LED on or off? Thanks
Guest fluffcat1 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Should be blinking - sounds like something is shorting... Richard
Guest Silent.knight Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 tommy, do you live in London? Cause that was one hell of a storm :)
Guest tommyb Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Thanks - I thought it used to flash! Now I'm wondering what else might not be quite right inside. Yeah live near London. It was nice wading home through the sewage...
Guest duuncan Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 On mine its the right that flashes green normally then when WiFi is on the left flashes green too
Guest adchaffey Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 I spilt a glass of water *near* my phone the other day. The puddle of water krept under the phone, barely getting it wet, but the phone was completely dead. Tried drying it out etc but no luck. Had to claim on insurance with
Guest Laser_iCE Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 I remember dropping an old samsung phone in the washing up bowl when trying to talk to someone and wash up at the same time. The phone didn't even disconnect the conversation! A quick shake and it was good as new! Haha, that's the best thing I've heard all evening.
Guest jimbouk Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Same for me - I dropped a phone in a bucket of water a few years back and it didnt even drop the call! Sometimes in the case you describe, you can leave it to dry some more to see if it gets better - but one (risky) trick is to open the device and look for any water stains. These will usually indicate the areas where the "dirty" water has left mineral deposits and these are causing the short. The answer amazingly is to actually wash the affected areas very carefully with distilled water. This will remove the minerals and when it dries it will not leave any more. (PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF ANYONE FOLLOWING THE STEPS SUGGESTED IN THIS POST)

I remember when I had my first Nokia 3310 and I had Rugby training, and I always took a few waterbottles (no one else would ever bring one and I'll be damned if they drink from my holy water bottle), and then I saw one was a leaky bottle so I wrapped it up in a teatowel... Needless to say, the lid popped off and I opened my bag to literally see that my phone was floating around in my bag... Yeah, it didn't work after that ;) Something about leaving it sitting in water for a good hour just doesn't appeal to electronics :)
