Guest niacin65 Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Anyone have the hardware info for the wifi chip on the I-mate sp5, sp5m, Qtek 8300, 8310, Dopod 577w, etc... Tornado? I want to see if it can be installed in the c600 or 2125 Tornado Faraday since I like the Faraday form factor better, and the space on the motherboard seems to be there, and the Tornado Noble rom can be flashed to it. Did anyone ever establish whether or not the c600 mini-sd slot was SDIO? I know, I know, there have been a million threads on this, but please bear with me, as these two specific questions have yet to be answered.
Guest mini_man Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Heya mate. I dont think anyone ever sourced a wifi chip for the C600. And in order to actually put the chip in you have to bake the C600 in an oven according to fluffcat. And whether a wifi card will work in a c600 is still unknown. But as far as we no it is possible to insert a spectec into a C500 so therefore will fit in with a C600. Theres more on how nedge did it here http://www.msmobilenews.com/page/947/ I asked fluffcat a while ago if he would try this with a wifi card in his old C600 and he said yes but only if he retrieves a wifi card as he hasnt got one. Hope this helps a bit Sam
Guest merwin Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 If you like the 2125 form factor better, why not just get the T-Mobile SDA (USA)? It's the same form factor, and includes WIFI.

Sorry, I live in the Philippines, so getting a wifi card to Fluffcat is quite difficult, but thanks for your reply. @merwin...well yes, the sp5m, or t-moble sda is close, but the keypad and soft and home buttons etc, are too close to gether for my liking, which is why I sold my sp5 in the first place. All I really want is a c500 or c600 with Wifi, so the quest remains.
Guest Tech Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 dont dream on orange having a smartphone device with wifi...

I found this link to the TI omap 850 processor, this is the basic blueprint for the Tornado. http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbu...;contentId=4679 If you look at all the "application subsystem add ons" it's quite impressive.omap850.bmp Edited August 5, 2006 by grumpy_old_technobyte

Yea, I saw that before, but what I am after is the letters and numbers printed ON the chip itself. I'm sure it's the only way I might stand a chance of making this happen.

The mainboard shape is identical. TBH, even if you have access to the chip specs it's unlikely you will have the equipment needed to perform this operation successfully. Even with a vacuum reflower there is only a low chance of success. The tools needed would cost far more than buying a new phone. Richard

I'm trying to locate a semi defective tornado so I can do just that at a lower price. I do have a friend here locally that has all the tools necessary to do the job, and he has been checking with his contacts at TI, but also no joy as of yet.
Guest fluffcat1 Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 (edited) OK, seeing as it's you, the chips are a: TNETW1100BZHH / C E 5AD6J8T and b: MAX2820 / ETM 601 / GN7N1CY marked on the attached picture of a faraday board. Yes, 2 chips. And if you look at my post here http://www.modaco.com/C600-Faraday-diss-as...ly-t240271.html - you'll see where they need soldering...just don't tell HTC I told you, right? ;-) Swop the board. You would need to add many fusable resistors etc that are present on wifi tornados that are simply not present on faradays...can't see it working even if you knew the value of the componants. Sorry... Richard Edited August 6, 2006 by fluffcat1
Guest mini_man Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 @niacin65 Wow how awesome would it be if this worked! I shall be sending my C600 over to you shortly when you get it all running on yours :)

Guest niacin65 Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 Fluffcat1...you're the man. Ok, you've convinced me, just swap boards. Now off to find a semi-damaged Tornado...hello, Ebay, are you there? Update, just transfered the T-Mobile SDA (usa) motherboard into the Cingular 2125. It fits perfectly. Only thing I had to remove was the "soft cushion pad" under the keypad, as it wouldn't fit to allow the housing. Why Orange or any other company doesn't put this WiFi motherboard into the Farady is beyond my grasp.
