C550 storage card problem

Hi All

I have a 1gb storage card in my SPV C550 which I use mainly for MP3's and the odd bit of installed software. A couple of weeks ago I went to listen to some MP3s and I found that most of them had just vanished off the SD card and a couple of others had renamed themselves using bizarre characters in the names (~ etc) and would not open. Also, I couldn't seem to delete these files either.

I put it down as a 'one off' and just put all my mp3's back on the phone so I could listen to them.

When I turned my smartphone on yesterday, it was extremely slow in responding to commands - I would select a menu item and it would take a couple of minutes (yes, minutes!) for the phone to actually respond or it would freeze up completely and the only way I could get going would be to remove the battery. I went to use TCPMP (which is installed on the SD card) and after about five minutes of waiting for it to try and load it came up with a message saying 'cannot find player.exe'. I had a look on the SD card (after waiting ages for smart explorer to load too) and sure enough, TCPMP had vanished along with most of my other files on the SD card.

I am not sure if the two items are connected but at the moment my phone is pretty useless with the way it is. I have not installed any new software in the last couple of days so what is going on?

I don't want to do a hard reset unless I really have to as I have loads of software installed that would be a nightmare to back up and re-install etc.

Any suggestions?

It is a Kingston card.

Ouch. There've been a few problems with Kingston cards on here. Uhh.. you could back everything up on the card, format it and paste everything back onto the card and see if that helps

Sorry to respond to my own post, but there has been a development!!

I have just uninstalled some old stuff to see if I could free up some memory on the phone (wondered if this might be a problem) and I have just had another look at the sd card and all my files seem to have reappeared only now they are all duplicated too!!

What on earth is going on?????
