TomTom does not support A2DP/ROM updates - beware!

I'm currently battling with TomTom to honour my licence agreement. At the moment they won't give me a new unlock code for my A2DP V1240 (new ROM gives a new device code). They don't care.

Is this what we can expect from future Smartphone developers? TomTom insists that updating your ROM breaks their compatability protocols; which company is next in attempting to rob paying customers of their products?

Are you familliar with how the activation code works at all??

Log on to the tomtom website, register your product with your product code HERE.

The product code is the code that came on the "creditcard".

When you try to activate a new device, your device will send its devicecode to the tomtom site, and it will get a activation code in return. This is done automatically.

And.. you don't activate a device, you activate a MAP on your device. :)

actually Killerost your wrong and he's right you do have a product code on which it printed on a card you do register the maps but the maps only work on the device they are bought for and the device have there own unique codes...change anything that alters the device code and your screwed by tomtom for good.

I had to by tomtom again becouse I did a rom update and it changed the device code so when i tried to activate it using the card as my product code then entered the device code it told me the product code was registered do a different device.

not only does the device code change when you make a ROM upgrade but also when you make any reg changes to the policies to unlock the device

Tomtom told me the would issue me with a new product code for free if i provide them with a receipt for the rom upgrade and the phone application unlocking

as I had done them myself online i could not get a receipt so tomtotm refused to help forcing my to buy again.

tomtom need to update here device activation by tapping into the IMEI code instead of there current method

ok this is my quick version

bouhgt mpx220 and tomtom regitered tomtom

upraded rom on mpx 220 and unlocked the phone regitered tomtom with second device code

bought qtek 8310 regitered tomtom with new device code

upgraded rom and application unlocked qtek

went to register got told i can not register this product with anymore devices....so one device at a time they say yet hey allow me three times to register with different device codes ok wel just delete the old ones as I no longer have hat device I sold it on ebay

then let me register my new device got told they nedd proof of ownership sent them recipt for both phones and proof of sale of the old one told the it worked fine until idid the rom upgrade and now it wont register they wanted proof of the upgrade could not do so as I did it my self with a down load form my phone makers site

batted back and forth for three weeks in end bought back the mpx 220 and a new copy of tomtom i kept them new one for my new phone and gave the wife the mpx 220 and the old version of tomtom which reregistered as they did not delete the codes and sold the wifes pohone instead

I am still trying to convince them that upgrading the rom is totally legit and often a nessesaty and that they need to revise the code generation for devices as far as i know the only things that dont change when a rom upgrade is made it IMEI code the bluetooth address and my user name
