Guest mandt Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Hi guys, Well I've finally had enough of AOL and requested my MAC code today, but who next? The fave so far is PlusNet >LINK<, but who else is good? I'm not bothered about any inclusive hardware as I'm about to buy my own router I'd particularly be interested to hear from any Linux users as I'm about to install it So, who should i give my hard earned to?
Guest Disco Stu Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Me too but wondering what will happen if AOL sell their European business. Actually considering Sky since they're digging up the street now and I was toying with getting Sky Digital anyway. I'd also welcome tips on changing ISP - losing main email address etc. Oh, and what's a MAC code ? :)
Guest mandt Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Oh, and what's a MAC code ? :) migration authorisarion code (or something) the best way to minimize downtime, plusnet reckon 30 hrs max! not a sky customer so not an option for me (200 channels of crap, no thanks!) although it's certainly a good deal for existing customers.
Guest danwatson1974 Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Free Orange Broadband if you are on a

Guest travisb Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 Zen are pretty good, but you pay for it. Eclipse also come out pretty well if you check out www.adslguide.org
Guest danwatson1974 Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 :) Yeah , I noticed , but I didn't know if you were well within your contract or not .... thought you might like to join the big O
Guest nedge2k Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 Well, Bulldog have a great service but crap CS. 24meg, phoneline and unlimted local/nat calls for
Guest Perfectionist Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 Cheapest is Carphone Warehouse with TalkTalk ..... 8Mb Broadband for free ..... as long as you pay
Guest mcwarre Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 Tiscali does it for me. Unlimited d/l. Beware of sky/orange and all those 'free' ones. They are free only if you spend.... and sky does not have much free coverage. Their d/l limit is normally something pathetic like 1GB/month
Guest goochy1 Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 (edited) I'm on BT. Its alright i think the main prob is my old Toshiba laptop - it can't even work google earth :) I heard sky broadband and sky digital together doesn't give you any special deals - i may be wrong i think they make you pay full price for both no special just because you have both - again may be wrong Its all very well going with orange but you've still got to pay your BT line aswell ok if your on the contract Edited August 6, 2006 by goochy1
Guest mini_man Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Force 9 are cheap. 14.99 a month for 8mb broadband with very high download limits! They are great for us and their customer service is actually decent. www.force9.net Sam
Guest goochy1 Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 They are great for us and their customer service is actually decent. Sam Thats always nice to know. goochy1
Guest mandt Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Thanks for all the suggestions people :) nedge2k Bulldog are certainly appealing with their all in one package and REAL unlimited broadband, which is the only reason I stayed at AOL for so long, thanks for the router tip, as it happens I was looking at that exact model! definitely going to buy one now I know of the 'upgrade' mcwarre you're dead right to be wary of the 'free' ones, as you say the limits are usually pretty restrictive, even read on the net that carphone warehouse charge a
Guest mini_man Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 I did but couldnt figure out how to get my wireless network card working (had linux installed on a different partition) so i just gave up as it was useless to me without internet. Sam
Guest mandt Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 I did but couldnt figure out how to get my wireless network card working (had linux installed on a different partition) so i just gave up as it was useless to me without internet. Sam Had exactly the same problems when I tried a few months ago, as you say without internet it's a bit frustrating, hence my trying to find a Linux friendly ISP!
