Using £6 GPRS in another phone

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if you are allowed to use the £6pm GPRS deal in another phone by swapping over the SIM card?

Would orange be able to tell im not using my SPV for gprs and then charge me standard rates?

Thanks ;)

I don't see any reason why not...the deal is ultimately part of your contract. I'd phone up 152 and check first though if i were you.

Just to update everyone on this situation:

After many phone calls and call backs from orange data I have found the official line is that you cant use the promotional pack on another phone.

But unofficially, even though orange don't endorse it, it will work fine and you won't see any additional billing.

I don't think they have the systems in place to check whether customers are using their promotional pack in other phones. So all you SE P800 buyers you will be able to use your old sim in your new phone and enjoy cheaper GPRS ;)

Knowing GSM billing sytems and networks in general, it is likely that Orange can determine which handset CSD and GPRS calls were made from, though they may not actively implement this in their billing(possibly more headaches than it's worth). I cannot state this is the case with Orange but certainly under GSM2.5+ it would be do-able.

No idea if this is true but I thought Id heard that the SIM Card is attached directly to the phone so Orange can see which phone etc the SIM is being used in, apprantly to cut down on theft?!?!

Id this is the case they may be able to see your not on the SPV and charge you standard rates.

Just a thought youd better check
