Guest OMAQ Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 (edited) Hi guys, Newbie here! Dropped my O2 XDA IQ and now the keyboard has stopped working. Have taken it apart but no joy. The warranty is void as I've already been playing with it. Cheers! Oz Edited August 9, 2006 by Pondrew
Guest w411y Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Surely its fixable. I'm not at much knowledge with hardware but people on here are (eg fluffcat1). If you want to fix it I believe it can be done. Tis a lovely phone though I'm after one at the mo, or the v1240. But a nice gesture and a big welcome to MoDaCo

But if you do, there are many people who would want the board to fit inside a c600 casing to give a slimmer look with wifi :-) Unless the ribbon is actually torn the keypad will be salvagable - lifted contacts are easily repaired - and even a tear can be bridged over. Water damage can be reversed also - the keypad ( microswitch joystick aside ) is the most robust part of a smartphone IMO. Even joystick microswitches can be swopped out. SO don't give up on it just yet. What exactly is the issue? I might be able to help. I also have some BER US SDA's with good keypads on their way for parts - other than those I have no Tornado parts :-( ao I may be able to help resurrect it as an SP5m clone Interestingly as an aside - the screen in the Tornado / Faraday et al is the exact same screen in the Hurricane BTW - 60H00041-01 - Must get out more... Richard
Guest w411y Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Lmao ! Your ears must really burn huh? :)

Guest Pondrew Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Call me suspicious but why does this XDA IQ have a Vodafone v1240 keyboard? (if you don't know what I mean look at the final pic which shows the XDA IQ depicted on the box with the correct BLACK keyboard - I've never heard of a variant having the same grey keyboard as the Vodafone incarnation...) OMAQ, you'll need to list this on Ebay to sell it on MoDaCo (no selling without linking to an auction due to conmen operating on this board) Post edited

I'll list it on Ebay and then send a link. With regards to the keyboard, I prefered the silver one so replaced the original black keyboard! Vain or what, huh. Fluffcat1 - I took the IQ apart again and you're right. There is a tear in the ribbon which probably explains why the keyboard isn't working. Would be extremely grateful if I could purchase a spare from you. Or do you know how I could bridge over it? Also I stupidly removed the screen connector from the motherboard (to take pictures for eBay) and now that I've reconnected it, I just get blank white screen. Great! >I may be able to help resurrect it as an SP5m clone Really? How is this so?

You can try and repaint the tracks on the cable by using a fibreglass pencil and taking off the plastic coating and the taping the back togther and repainting th tracks with conductive paint and a pin. Great! make sure you've plugged it back in properly... sounds like its not quite in.... >I may be able to help resurrect it as an SP5m clone Really? How is this so? just remove the mainboard from the IQ casing and put in the SDA case along with all the relevant bits like speakers, camera, vibration motor etc and then flash with the i-Mate SP5m rom or replace the kayboard driver. Phil Sounds fairly complex. Don't know if I could do it properly. I might try to source a keyboard from somewhere....fluffcat1 maybe? I'll try again with the screen. The ribbon slots in and then a clasp holds it in place. There is some sticky tape on it which I guess holds it in place? The SP5m idea seems quite good....I might try it if I can't get the keyboard fixed. Wonder where you source a SP5m shell? eBay i guess.

Guest OMAQ Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 I guess I'll be dismantling it then. I've already bought a replacement SP5.
Guest Pondrew Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Just a quick reminder that no buying or selling by pm or post can occur on MoDaCo (except for listings in the Ebay section and then only with a link to an Ebay sale). Thanks for reading! :)
