Guest nathanoneill Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 I recently bought the USA T-mobile SDA phone, and immediately loved the fact that I could connect and browse to my WEP protected home wifi network. I could also connect to any other open networks I came to find. For some reason, I cannot connect to my home network anymore. It will find the network, I input the WEP key, and for some reason when it tries to get an Ip address it can't. I tried disabling the the WEP on my home network, making it an open network, but it made no difference. Interestingly though, I can still connect to other open networks around town etc. I noticed this issue sometime over last weekend, I think it was after I did the initial activesync connection. I don't know if that changed anything. No doubt it's a setting that needs to be checked or something? But where should I start? It is frustrating to say the least. Can anyone relate to this? Can anyone help?
Guest jimbouk Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Firstly you shouldnt have to re-input the wep key each time. A Windows mobile wifi device should remember wep keys for WLANs you have accessed before. I would power cycle the router, delete the entry from your device (by clicking and holding on it), then try to reconnect. It is vital you type the wep key accurately as any errors will mean you dont get an IP address. If that doesn't work, then check a) you can connect to the router with another device (eg laptop) and if so then :) that your device can connect to another wireless access point. Then you know where the trouble lies. If its the router, then you can reset it to factory settings, then re-input your own SSID. Test whether you can connect to it before re applying WEP. If its the device, then a hard reset may be necessary - and if that doesn't work, then it's WIFI may be faulty.

Hi after making tests suggested by jimbouk, and before resetting phone or router... if it's still not working, did you put a Mac address filter list on the router maybe ? independently of which device you use (laptop, smartphone or whatever..), when IP attribution fails, it's commonly mac filtering or no more available IP on router's dhcp (dhcp range too short...).
