Guest randy Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 I just wanna announce my latest project. I hope it's ok. www.windowsmobileblogs.com Mods, feel free to move this to the right forum. Thanks.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 Interesting site using the news from other sources in one place. You may need to change the name though before MS send a nice legal letter to you. They do not like people using the Windows brand name as their site name.
Guest randy Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 thanks for the tip awarner. i'll change it to something else.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 oooo...and using their windows logo too....another big NO-NO.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 I requested removal of MoDaCo News from this site. From what I can see, it's taking the generously-provided full text RSS feeds from other sites, posting them up automatically, and putting your own ads on. Not something I approve of personally... P

P that was why i asked each blog/website owner if i could include them in my project coz i know that some people like you would think that way. luckily, all of them allowed me to syndicate their site except you.

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 It's the actual use of the name Windows Mobile that is the problem. Windows Mobile is a trademark which means unless you have actual permission to use it then you may recieve a polite email from the MS legal team. Other sites have had to change their names in the past.

I don't see ALOT of the major news sites like Modaco listed on your site. So it's not JUST modaco that said no.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 I still don't really get what the project IS, aside from leeching peoples news and making money off it :D P
Guest nickcornaglia Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 If he didn't have google ads on the site...I'd say it was just a convenient way to read his favorite mobile news...but there are ads there that do bring in money. He'll say...."that's there to help pay for my server space". But in the end....he's stealing hits.

Windows Mobile is a trademark which means unless you have actual permission to use it then you may recieve a polite email from the MS legal team. Other sites have had to change their names in the past. i'm not a lawyer. that's why i was asking if the disclaimer at the bottom is enough. I don't see ALOT of the major news sites like Modaco listed on your site. So it's not JUST modaco that said no. they're just those that i usually visit. i haven't asked other window's mobile related sites. the others don't have RSS. I still don't really get what the project IS, aside from leeching peoples news and making money off it :D P i was just trying to make the windows mobile related sites centralized in one site. If he didn't have google ads on the site...I'd say it was just a convenient way to read his favorite mobile news...but there are ads there that do bring in money. He'll say...."that's there to help pay for my server space". But in the end....he's stealing hits. stealing hits? no, i'm actually adding to their site's popularity because of the links from this site. also, if you will notice, i just display the excerpt and link back to the author's site for the complete article. i hope you guys get my point. if not, then you may delete this entire thread. also delete my account here in modaco and everything i contributed when this site was just starting. thanks for everything.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 No need to jump from the bridge just yet or get threatening in any way. We're asking you to understand the point of Modaco....but in the end, it's no big deal. Hits are hits. Modaco wants people to visit HERE everyday....not another page that lists the news items from here, where people can decide to continue thru the link or not to visit out of convenience. There is much more here than just news...Modaco wants people to come here to see that as well. We want Modaco to be our one-stop-shop for all things WindowsMobile. That's a testament to what it wants to provide to me, to you, to everyone. I personally used to get frustrated with MSMobiles because he just allows headline RSS feeds and not full text nor excerpts. He has his reasons why he does that, one being, he wants you to check HIS site and not just the RSS. He likes his Alexa ranking...and I'm thinking RSS does not add to hits on his main page. Paul was just providing his point of view. I as a Modaco fan and member was providing mine. Don't get angry about it. We're all a big happy dysfunctional family here! :D
Guest da_mayhem Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 It is really frustrating that MS sticked about that "logo" and "name" issue, i don't know what's the point, trademark? I can't take it. While we, the Wind*ws Mobile Communities here on the WWW contributed a lot, which i know, have helped them in any way or some how. @Randy - Ok lang yan pre, suportahan taka :D
