Guest arangast Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Hi guys, I'm new to Pocket PC / Smartphones, and after all my research have decided to go for one of these beasties :) I'm quite a avid gamer and before I buy one I'd like to know if there are any SNES or Mega Drive (or any other classic console) emulators that might work on it and if they're any good - I presume they could be playable via the keyboard. I know the likes of Scummvm should work fine which is great, but if I could get my old console collections running that would be even better... Thanks in advance, Arangast
Guest steveA Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 You can find a Pocket PC port of MAME here. I don't think it will work with the newer processor on the Hermes tho.

Tried MameCE Arcade emulator, rom loads but cant find any keys actioning the game to load coins and start. Bombjack looked good on start screen! After a while of button pushing, it locks up. Anyone else tried? Edited December 11, 2006 by AndrewH13
Guest MikeWard1701 Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 (edited) Not done much gaming on my Vario yet, say for playing the default 'bubble burst'. But there's a few games I'm gonna try. Will report back. I've heard that there is a GameBoy / GameBoy Advance emuator available and also a version of Tomb Raider. Guest Matt Kirby Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Have a look at my post here: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...n+on+the+hermes I've looked mainly at console emulation, and not tried to use the keyboard as generaly there are enough keys around the screen to play landscape mode with the case closed.
Guest MacHooligan Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261277 This cab does work, i've installed it twice. Guest daedalia Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 (edited) MAME CE3 is very old and no longer developed, use PocketCult MAME, supports more games & it works. http://www.pocketcult.com/home.php For Capcom & NeoGeo, Final Burn. http://www.modaco.com/FinalBurn-for-WinCE-0006-t247894.html Mega Drive use Picodrive, full sound with 400Mhz. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=237281&st=0 Edited December 13, 2006 by daedalia

Guest Abel060 Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 (edited) There are emulators for almost every old game system try looking on site like www.pocketpcfreewares.com you can find emulators for snes nes gba etc.. try Pocket GBA, PocketSNES (Bleeding Edge), and PockerNester. These emulators all run smooth but only support landscape mode facing the opposide direction of the keyboard so that the keyboard is on top. If anyone know an emulator that support landscape with the keybaord at the bottom so it can be used let us know. PocketNesterPlus 0.9 runs better than PocketNester and it supports landscape mode in both directions so you can use the keyboard. Pocketnesterplus and the tgetfile: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach...&tid=237915 Edited December 27, 2006 by Abel060
Guest Wam7 Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 The few games I've tried seem to slow down dramatically when the stylus is used. Is this the case for all games? i.e SkyForce played very smooth on my P910 using the stylus but runs like treacle using the stylus on M3100... runs smooth just using the D-Pad.
Guest Abel060 Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 (edited) How do you use romcenter with pocketcultmame to locate roms you already have? Also, I used Picodrive for genesis emulation and PocketNesterPlus for nes emulation, they work very good and they both have landscape support for both directions. With picodrive and pocknesterplus i can use the slide out keyboard and all the games run and play great after mapping the keys correctly. Now all i need is an snes emulator and gba emulator with landscape support to the right side. You can get these emulators in the smartphone game forum, I think masterall is the one perfecting them. Guest Abel060 Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 (edited) How does one install these on the HTC Hermes? For Picodrive Download the file to your computer and Unzip the files. Take the file picodrive.exe and place it in your ppc using the active sync file explorer. You probably want to put it on your storage card. After you put it on your hermes use the file explorer in it to open the picodrive.exe file you saved on your storage card. Install the file and you are finished. All you need your games. Guest daedalia Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) Don't forget to copy tgetfile.dll to the same location as Picodrive otherwise you won't be able to load games. You can get it from http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=237281&st=80. Edited December 27, 2006 by daedalia
