I use abstract start and it lets you change the order the icons. It also lets you change layout style.

well you could use a home screen plugin to have direct acces to your most used on your home screen such as facade or RJV shortcuts

but you can edit this registry to re order the first 14 to the choice you want at the top you can also toggle it from a grid view or list view

HKCU/software/microsoft/shell/start menu

to change grid view

1 = icon view

0 = list view

to change order

type in what you want in the order you want it including the .lnk if its a link to a program or just the name if its a link to a folder in the start menu

also with in the shell folder you can creat a new folder called

NeverDorkMemory

create new Dword value called default and set ot to 0 this will give real time memory defrag

enjoy

Personally I hate abstact start and the other one thats flauting around which does look better its just that they are no configurable to my likings but each to his own and I am glad you like it

but you should try the reg edits above if you have wm5 software as it does all that abstract start does plus more without having to take up valuable memory by having one more applet running and installed

Excuse my stupidity but where do i type the list? within HKCU/software/microsoft/shell/start menu?

also, where can i find RJV Shortcuts to have a look at it, i found a site that sells someone selling facade through google but not RJV.

Many thanks, SKetch

once you have navigated to start menu clcik on order depending which reg edit you are using some you click on and it opens the box for editing others you have to select values then clcik on order to open it for editing

if the start menu appears blank when you get there look see if there is a value button ( i am presuming you are using a reg editor on the phone here)

www.airfagev.com for RJV

You are a bit wrong here. Reg Edit do not do all of the things that Abstract can do. Look at the this screenshot (from their webpage)

2003_magneto.gif2003newlayout.gif

What you see here is one with twelve icons on. This is great.

But on the other screenshot there is 11 icons, and one "move to next page button"!!!

With a standard background (and not that noisy background on the screenshot), I find the new looking startmenu Super Duper Great :)

And reg editing is to messy to do all the time you either install a new prog (and want to place it where you want the shortcut), or simply want to change the order of you icons

Abstract start doesn't really affect performance. At least I've never noticed a hit in response or free memory.

btw a hint for abstract I just figured out (I'm a little slow) is that to change the value for folders you simply change the values for the shortcuts inside the folders. It's probably common knowledge but I was psyched when I found it.
