Guest Variatron Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Have followed thru the steps on the link, up to the SDA part but stil don't seem to be able to get my smarty going...any further advice??? :'( 1.In the first place you have to be connected to your PC through Active Sync. You then have to have the installation file of the freeware that you want to install. 2.Some programs are in .exe format. For these, you can just run the exe file from your computer with while your Phone is connected through active sync. 3.Others are in .Cab or .Rar format. For these format, you got to copy the cab or rar file over to your phone storage or storage card. This can be done using the "Explore" function in active sync. With the Cab or Rar in your phone, run the cab or rar file using "File manager" in your phone. 4.The installing should then ask you if you want to install the program into your Phone storage or storage card. People normally select storage card for space. This should be of some help. If you still cant install, you should try searching the forums for other solutions. I'm using a Dopod 585 as well. =).

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 There are plenty of sites around, Check out the MoDaCo Downloads section as well as www.coolsmartphone.com and www.airfagev.com As for getting to know your phone and installing applications etc have a look at the MoDaCo Information section. That should be able to answer most of your questions :D http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=166 Here's a guide on different types of software and homescreen installation. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=229562

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 I generally suggest to place cab files in Storage/Windows/Start Menu/Accessories folder this way you do nto need to use a file manager to explore teh phone instead all you need to do is press Start then go to the Accessories folder and the cab file will be there ready to install. As for actually installing the cab file once selected you will be asked where to install the file, if you do not get this message check the file you have is definately a cab file and not a different file extension.

The file I have is definitely a cab file (checked the properties) but it doesn't self-install. It keeps prompting me to use the appropriate program to run the cab file... :D
