Guest derek_plant Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Just as the thread title really, I have ordered unbranded a 1Gb SD and a 2Gb Mini SD card from eBay and I'm getting worried after hearing reports that some are dodgy can can corrupt your data etc. Is this true? If so, how many people have come across a dodgy card?
Guest Ingvarr Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Even "branded" cards have problems. For example, large size Kingstons miniSD often glitch with Tornado phones.
Guest Disco Stu Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Best advice is to take a regular backup of the card - using a USB reader preferably.
Guest agent.m Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 i got one last week and it said 1.88mb instead of 2gig...not happy to say the least. tried formatting and putting content larger than 1.88mb on and it dont work.
Guest barrybryce Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 (edited) edit... misread your post... thought it said 1.88GB rather than 1.88MB Edited August 16, 2006 by barrybryce
Guest monkeygadge Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 I got a dodge Sandisk 2GB MiniSD two weeks ago. It came sealed though and I have sent it back. I still haven't heard anything from the seller and I posted 11 days ago! :)
Guest Laser_iCE Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 I got my 1GB MiniSD card from a reputed ebay store... Remember people, ALWAYS check feedback, and make sure they have 100+ rating. If you buy it from someone that isn't an eBay store or a certified seller, then it's like going to the markets and buying the storage card as opposed to buying it from a commercial store chain -- you're on your own and obviously won't get your money back or have any sort of warranty.
Guest Tech Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 remember, just for the record, majority of the kingston miniSD cards are not compatible with the mobile devices, ones which are known to work are the sandisk and crucial manufacturers :) just fyi ;)
Guest Nubbing Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Just for the record. I use mobymemory.com, they sell both official cards and there own branded cards. Back in Feb I bought a 2gb mini sd mobymemory manufactured card and I have had no problems with it. I have found there only ever

Remember people, ALWAYS check feedback, and make sure they have 100+ rating. and don't forget to see if the feedback is from people buying from them, or from them buying from other people. Someone with a 100% rating is not much us if it is from them buying lots of small priced items from other people.
Guest derek_plant Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 OK I'm the OP and I can now add my first own experience to this thread :) I'd ordered a 1Gb SD card for my digital camera and a 2Gb miniSD card for my C500....well the 1Gb SD card came today and it doesn't work at all. Not recognised by my laptop with in built SD card reader, and my camera says "this card cannot be used" ! The seller is hongkong_bargain who has over 22,000 positive feedback, and the brand of card was "PQI". I've contacted the seller for a refund by email.

Not used that seller but never had a problem with pqi before. Ask for a replacement rather than arefund as usually the HK sellers won't refund your postage, and as they've bumped it up for fee avoidance on ebay you usually only get the ridiculusly low buy it now price back :-( Richard
